Pretty Decent Place Until You Need to Leave

To be honest, San Marin wasn't a bad spot. The workout room has just enough to build a sweat, the pool is tropical and never closes and the parking area, while slim, provides a lot of spots and unless you're heading home at 4 AM on a Friday, you'll get a spot.

The rooms aren't as nice as the Palladium next door, but it's a touch more affordable and the amenities trump their neighbors. We always got along with the staff and even if something was wrong and it took a while to get fixed, they would eventually get it done.

The thing is, once it's your time to move out, everything changes. I had a roommate and I was moving out one month, he was staying the extra month. I turned in paperwork stating, with confusion from my roommate, that we would be vacate in 30 days, the normal amount of time you give an apartment to fill your space. When my roommate explained to me that he was going to stay an extra month, I quickly went over to the office and talked to the exact same lady. She said that wasn't a problem, she'd fix the paperwork and everything would be fine.

That was up until we were both told we had to be out in three days. Nobody changed the paperwork, they filled the apartment and my roommate was kicked to the curb. They had no concern for us and even said we needed to be "better communicated," something you don't necessarily want to be scolded for from a person working the front desk at a lowly apartment complex.

Understand that both my roommate and I are upstanding members of society. I think at the max, we had one night where there were more than four people in the apartment, and that was a Christmas party that couldn't have been more civil than if a priest hosted it.

Once we moved out, I was informed we wouldn't be getting back any of our security deposit because a number of reasons. One was a fine for having a window screen shredded. This was a window screen that had be shredded by a branch we called about because it was banging against our window. The branch was a tree planted and contained by San Marin. We called more than once about it but nobody did anything. We paid for their laziness and mistake.

Also, we were fined a substantial amount of money for what was noted as "cat urine." We had no dog, we had no hamster and we definitely had no cat. What are two guys living together going to look like owning a cat'

When contacting these people about the problems with our security deposit, they acted as interested as Britney Spears would at a church outing. Never a call back, never any interest in investigating the problems with the security deposit fiasco and absolutely no money back.

If you're looking for a place to live and don't mind losing your security deposit for faulty assumptions, it isn't a bad place to live. If you are pushed at all by morals, avoid San Marin at all costs. The people that run it seem to care about their tenants as much as they do about their tree trimming.
