I'm on my second six months here. I often say that the complex was probably the cat's meow in the 50's and 60's. It is an older, motel style, complex with mature plantings. The clientele is mixed but everyone has been very nice so far.

The positives are that it's quiet, common areas are maintained and kept fairly clean and service has been very good (they even have a fairly extensive movie rental collection at the office for $1.00 there). They have a clubhouse and a furnished apartment for rent for visitors. They have a small gym with treadmill and weights and a nice pool with a jucuzzi (which I'm sorry to say, I've never used). They also have shuffleboard; personally, I'd rip them out and put in a basketball court- who plays shuffleboard'

The staff is friendly and helpful and the maintenance guy lives there so, if you have a problem, he's there lickity split. Oh, and they keep the bugs pretty much at bay by spraying regularly.

On the minus side, there are things they can do better and others things that are beyond their control. There are a seemingly large number of smokers, at least around me, and they smoke outside where the fumes tend to waft into my apartment, making it hard for me to keep a front window open (beyond their control really). I also think my apartment was previously occupied by smokers since it smells faintly of smoke all the time.

The apartments are "motel" style such that your front window faces a walkway. Naturally, people walking by can see in if you don't have window coverings, which most people do. Some people don't care and just leave their doors open all the time- kind of tacky. All these are things that, if you don't like them, look elsewhere because they can't be changed.

The apartments haven't been updated in decades so the cabinets are cheap particle board covered with paper and are showing their age. Generally the workmanship inside the apartment is poor. I noticed that there's paint peeling in a few places under the overhead canopies but I'm sure the'll get around to them at some point. The tennis courts need to be resurfaced but they are lighted and some folks there do use them. Laundry is available but the machines could use replacement (that said, laundry is inexpensive there compared to most laundromats).

Finally, all of the utilities are controlled by the complex so you have very little control over the cooling (most important utility in Arizona of course). My apartment hovered between 76 and 78 degrees this past summer. During the hot months, forget about turning on your oven because the system doesn't seem to compensate for variation within an apartment. I'm not sure this is a negative more than a fact of life here. Regardless of how "warm" it was in my little apartment, it was a whole lot warmer outside.

So, this is the low-down on this place. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to hang your hat for while, this is a pretty decent choice. If you're looking to rub elbows with the rich and famous, you'll be barking up the wrong palm tree.

I liked the fact that i could crank the a/c here at 60 degrees during the hot times of the summer. Man.. that was nice... Sure... the temp really didn't get below 70 in the apt, but it never got above 75 either. that was plenty cool for me.... sure beats a 200 dollar electric bill in the summer... When i lived here, there was a good deal of seniors... therefore, they turned the furnace on a little bit earlier than most of us would have like. i.e. the first couple of cold days in the winter, they shut off the a/c, then all of a sudden.. we get a 90 degree spike in temp and we have no a/c... that blew!!! but hey... when your electric is paid for... i mean... seriously... /- overall... no complaints... oh yeah... the smoking thing... that only bothered me when it was warm and the a/c was not available.. everyone would open thier front doors to keep the air circulating at night and i know what you are talkign about there. i am a non-smoker. mike henry
