Sunscape apartments aren't really all that bad, but they're not really all that good. They are not gated and exposed to some rather seedy elements (at the corner of Indian School and Hayden a woman was raped in the summer of 04 and a little while after on the corner of Hayden and Osborne the Arizona Federal Credit Union was robbed). They also have some of the worst management staff I have ever seen. It's like playing the customer service lotto. Some of them were nice and some of them weren't. Most of the time, even the nice ones, failed to turn any unpleasant situation or concern around. This is the norm with most apartment complex management, so I wasn't too terribly shocked when Sunscape seemed to fit the cookie cutter mold of deadbeat apartment complexes. However, the maintenance staff was rather speedy--BUT! it did take them 3 (3!!) phone calls to finally get them to replace a dishwasher that had to have been from the mid '80s (On our 2nd request to have someone fix the non-functioning dishwasher, they said they "cleaned it" and "to start washing dishes in sink before placing in the dishwasher". This kind irked us.) We did however end up getting a new dishwasher after the arm fell off. Even after that fiasco, we still probably would have stayed here for a little while, but then we learned that Sunscape was kicking all the residents out at the end of their lease to slap a new coat of paint on, lay down some vinyl flooring (and call it pergo) and jack the rent up $200.00. Now, we're kind of glad. We just signed a lease with a brand new apartment complex and are ready to be done with Sunscape. If you plan on renting here, be ready for a lot of noise at and after 2am when the bars close, a management staff that is indifferent at best, and the possibility of eviction due to maintenance upgrades.
