We love this place!

My husband and I read the reviews on this site prior to signing our lease in August. We read through all of the reviews and decided to give this place a chance considering that we had already fallen in love with the neighborhood and the floor plan, not to mention the price. When we moved into our apartment, it was clean and pleasant for the most part. We did do a sanitation cleaning- but that's standard with any place we live. There were a few issues that maintenance needed to address, and they did so promptly and to our satisfaction.
Parking can be an issue, mostly in the evenings. But during normal hours there isn't really a problem. We did have an issue with one of our neighbors taking over our assigned covered parking space, however that was easily resolved when we contacted the management and they contacted the residents to notify them of the parking guidelines.
The complex feels more like a neighborhood to me. It is a "big-small" complex. To my knowledge, there are just over 300 units. Which is perfect for me. I like being able to walk into the office and the staff knows who I am, and that whenever I call the office for something all I have to say is my first name. The other complexes I have lived at were much larger, and that was never the case - I was just a number to them.
The office staff has always been friendly, courteous, and has addressed every issue I have, no matter how small. I have worked mostly with Christine. She has really been wonderful. She got everything taken care of for us to move in, and didn't mind us stopping by a number of times prior to our move in date to take measurements of the model (for furniture purposes).
The electric bill really hasn't been much different than other places I've lived here in Phoenix. The unit we chose has North/South exposure, and it can maintain about 85 degrees during the middle of the day without the air conditioner on. The units come standard with two ceiling fans that help keep it cool also. It's possible that mostly people who are shocked at the cost of the electric bill in the summer have come from out of state, and just aren't used to the heat.
We haven't encountered any bugs at all. We keep our kitchen and bathrooms clean, and don't leave food out to attract them. Also, the pest control service comes every Wednesday, and they will spray your apartment upon your request.
The grounds are clean for the most part. There are a few things that could be addressed with the landscaping to make it more presentable.
My husband and I are really enjoying our new home here at Scottsdale Desert Shadows. We love all the space, and the natural light coming from the skylights (we have a loft). We've got plenty of cabinet space in the kitchen- there are eight drawers and 15 cabinets just in the kitchen. The neighborhood is fantastic! There is a huge park next door where we can fly kites, and it is a nice quiet retreat for evening walks.
