An Honest Review...

My wife and I lived there for about 3 years and recently moved out. We moved partly because we were unhappy with the newer management (Lincoln took over in June 2006) and partly because we found a house for similar rent in a nearby neighborhood. We initially very much liked our place, though it was somewhat small. (2BR with limited living room area, but large BR) We enjoyed the quiet space being on the golf course and there was a good mix of young, old, and most people were pleasant. They used to have some social events that were fun, too, so you could get to know your neighbors - a wine tasting fest, etc. We know they were typically geared towards more 20-something singles, but we are in our early 30s and had fun - nothing raucous, but just good neighborly fun. It seemed the folks working at the complex enjoyed working there and tended to be helpful, too.

The transition to the new mgmt in June 2006 was odd, though...no formal notice, no real greeting or "get-to-know" the residents kind of setting. They changed the layout of the fitness room without asking or polling the residents. They did not warn our building when they were going to shut off the water for a problem that was not immediate. There was a leak that developed in our ceiling fan during the monsoon storms one weekend and they did not immediately respond saying it would have to wait until Monday to be resolved...not very professional, in our opinion - there should be a 24hr emergency maintenance guy and 24hr means 24hr! In general, we were disappointed with the communication from the new management - they tended to just do things rather than informing residents first. We found that to be inconvenient and unappreciative. They would change locks to the pool and fitness area and not let you know until after the fact. The front gate key card reader broke and wasn't fixed for about a month and then the gate itself broke and wasn't fixed for about 2 months - what's the point of having the gate if it's open all the time' They never communicated what the situation was with the gate being broken - or any problem and that was what was frustrating. It always was up to us to ask. We thought this was poor customer service. If something's not working, the management should let the tenants know and give an estimate of when it will be solved. Mind you, the maintenance staff people seemed fine - it's just that we were never told of any problems beforehand by the management. It's very simple - most people understand that problems happen, but just want to know what the situation is as soon as possible. Folks are typically more receptive to a problem when they are told about it first - that never happened with the new Lincoln property folks. Management was not communicative at all.

We do think that towards the end of our time there they had improved slightly and taken on better staff in the office, but we were still dismayed by their handling of things overall. And they asked for a ridiculously large increase in rent which after we initially turned down, they asked if we would reconsider at a very reasonable price. We turned them down and have been happy with our rental home.

We did think the apartment we were in (2nd floor, golf course, south end) was quiet and we had very few noise problems. We liked the location, the pools, our neighbors, and the fitness center for the most part. We did notice that it seemed there were quite a few vacancies when we left - maybe that's why they offered a decent price and hopefully they will learn from their mistakes. I'd still think you can find a better place in the Kierland area.

Overall, we'd say this place is overrated, but if management can improve, it might be okay...you might want to negotiate a price lower than what they're asking at the moment!
