DON'T DO IT!!!

I put a float deposit down about 3 months before I was scheduled to move-in to the Ventana. At the time, the leasing agent, Heather, told me that they would call me about a month ahead of time to let me know what apartment I would be assigned.

Well, about 3 weeks before my move date I was finally able to get one of the leasing agents to return my voice-mails. The lady told me that they couldn't tell me which apartment I would be assigned to (or even which model)until the day of my move-in. Having visions of having to spend night after night in a hotel because the Ventana did not provide an apartment for me on my move-in day, I told the agent that was unacceptable and that I wanted my float deposit back (the deposit was to be returned in full if I decided at any point prior to signing a lease that I didn't want to move-in). There seemed to be no problem with a refund at the time.

I waited nearly 2 months for the refund and it never arrived. I attempted to call the leasing office to settle this issue on 3 separate occasions. Once I was disconnected (i.e. hung-up on) and the other two times they simply did not return my call.

Finally about 3 weeks ago, I was able to contact the leasing manager. He accused me right off the bat of lying about this petty $29 dollar float deposit and wondered why I waited so long to talk to him. Uh, because your employees never returned my call or followed up with what they said they would follow-up on. We went back and forth for about 10 minutes until I faxed him a copy of my processed float deposit check from my bank.

To make a long story short, the Ventana had lost my file. That is why they did not have an apartment for me. They did not know who I was even though they had cashed my float deposit check. So the manager told me that he would send this check out to me three weeks ago and I still don't have the money.

I understand that mistakes can be made and files can be lost. No Biggie. But don't you think that when I called to find out what unit my apartment would be that they would have asked who I was' GEEZ...

So based on principle, by virtue of how rudely I was treated throughout this entire process, I am now forced to file a Small Claims case (for $29 stinking bucks) out of this ridiculous, never-ending saga.

I am elated that I did not sign a lease because I can only imagine how management treat their tenants.
