A Fair Review

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

I have lived at City Scape at Lakeshore for the past year, and I used this site to help find this apartment, and wanted to share my experience.

Pros:
1) Grounds beautiful, well kept, maintenance isn't too loud in the mornings (unlike at the Mark Taylor where I lived, I was always woken up at 6 am by loud leaf blowers ect).
2) Maintenance is prompt, friendly, efficient, and respectful. Requests are almost always complete within 24 hours.
3) The leasing office staff completely changed while I was living here so I can not attest for the current staff, however the previous individuals were friendly and helpful.
4) Great floor plans, high ceilings, clean, no real problems with bugs, I haven't seen a single cockroach (which can be a problem in Tempe).
- Note: They advertise "fine European style cabinetry" but really the cabinets are cheap, and the counter tops are cheap. Which is fine for me, but their marketing is misleading.
5) The gym is great! Lots of equipment, new, clean, up to date, with large flat screen TV's, good sound system.
6) Awesome location! Right by Whole Foods, Studio Yoga, Coffee Shops (Solo Cafe, Starbucks), Highway 60, Hwy 10, and Hwy 101. 3 miles from ASU, 3.5 miles from SCNM.
7) The other residents seem great, pretty quiet community, lots of really friendly people at the pool!

Cons:
1) The buildings are old, the floor boards creak, and if you are on a 1st floor you can hear everything the people upstairs do. The noise has been so problematic that my roommate has to sleep with ear plugs in because she can hear the neighbors walking around upstairs every morning at 6 am.
2) The applicances are very old, and they do not work.
- The washing machine has smelled like rotting eggs since I moved in, and their idea of fixing the problem is to run chemicals through the filtration system. Which did not work.
- The dishwasher has never worked. We have had them come "fix" it many times, which entails running chemicals through it (common solution...). Which of course did not fix the dishwasher. After this being an issue for 6 months, finally one of the maintenance personnel told me that the complex was cheap and would not replace my dishwasher unless I figured out how to short it out. So we hand wash all of our dishes.
3) They closed the pool for a month in the middle of the summer to re-tile it. When I asked why they didn't close the pool to "update" it in the winter when no one uses a pool, the staffing agent says that the complex is empty with the ASU students gone for the summer. So if you want a complex that is not tailored to ASU, then this is not the place for you....
4) The gas grill at the pool does not generally work bc the residents area always stripping the nobs. Also, the light out there has not worked since I moved in.
5) I live in building M, and there is virtually NO parking. Each apartment gets 1 assigned spot (covered or garage), the uncovered is for the other resident in that apartment and guests. Many people get assigned a garage space over here and use the garage as storage and park their car in the uncovered spots.

Over all, I would recommend City Scape, so long as you aren't looking for luxury apartments. Its nice, safe, clean, but the 1 bedrooms are too pricy for what you get. Good luck searching!
