Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
I moved into the Villas/Commons in early May 2007 because of its proximity to ASU. I was taking classes there and didn't want to brave the commuting nightmare, so I chose Villas. All apartments here are 2 bedrooms, so you must have at least one roommate, unless you fork over double rent for the whole unit.
When I arrived, the living room - which splits the two bedrooms - was completely trashed. The staff told my roommate that he would be getting a roommate, but apparently took no action to ensure that it was actually in normal condition. There were beer cans and garbage all over the floor, along with my roommate's bike in the middle of the room. It smelled about as you would expect. My room was pretty clean, though.
I notified management three separate times about my roommate/the apartment's condition at move-in, and despite assurances that they would call him and get back to me, nothing ever happened. This apparently is their MO.
Things went smoothly for about a week or so, until my electric bill was shut off because my roommate failed to pay it. If you are unfamiliar with how paying the electric bill works, it has to be in your name to get any information whatsoever, so I couldn't find out how much was owed and pay it since it was not in my name. I saw the roommate about 3 times in the 3 months that I lived in the apartment, so I went to management again and asked them to talk to this guy to find out what exactly was going on. I spoke with the property manager personally, and he told me he would call my roommate...etc., and get back to me the following week. Unsurprisingly, he never did.
My roommate eventually paid the bill (although i never saw him), and after two days the power was turned on again. Shortly before I moved out, I received another notice that the power was being shut off the day after I moved out. At that point, I hadn't seen or heard from my roommate for two months, and heard nothing from management. I told management about this at move-out, as there was food in the refrigerator that would spoil, but they just told me not to worry about it. I also asked them about my roommate, and they told me he had moved home for the summer. This was the first time they told me where the hell he was.
Aside from the management, there were other problems with the apartment and the community. The kitchen drawers were mostly off-track and broken, and the carpet appeared permanently stained. Many of the vertical blinds were also broken. The community itself is usually pretty noisy at night, although the security guard kept it quiet after a certain hour most times. A few times my neighbors played -------- until about 2:30 am, which is loud in itself, and moreso when people are screaming. I understand that I lived in the complex in the summer, but noise that late on a weekday night is a little much. I had no real complaints with maintenance.
As for the person trying to call out anonymous posters, I timely paid my rent and was not evicted. I would not recommend Villas, based mainly on my experience with management.
