My husband and I have lived at DPV for 16 months and we cant wait to leave!! We would have moved when it was time to renew our lease, but the expense of moving was to much for us. The office staff knows how expensive it can be and takes advantage of this to those who must renew leases due to being a student and finishing school. We are moving next month and it isnt soon enough.
In the very beginning we thought that things werent to bad. Then after just a couple of days things started to change. The first thing we noticed was the tank on our toilet wasnt stable. You could knock it over every time you flushed. Maintenance solution for fixing it was putting a 2x4 behind it to hold it against the wall. We tried to have it fix better than that, but gave up after the staff ignored our request after a couple of times.
The noise level is bad. The person upstairs from us is making hammering noises and what sounds like moving furniture every night until 5 or so in the morning. We complained and the noise has continued. The same as the parties that go on most nights of the week. (doesnt anybody work anymore')
Water has leaked from the bathroom ceiling over the toilet. We couldnt use the bathroom for a couple of hours becouse of the leak. Water has also leaked into our bedroom closet (that was fixed) and kitchen window from above. We have what some could call a small swamp outside of our window due to the leak from the hot water heater that drains outside. Again we have let them know about this, but has anything been done. No
The refridgerator wasnt working right. After three times of "fixing" it they finally decided to get us a new one. It was like all of the other appliances. OLD!!!
The A/C wasnt working. They came out to fix it once and said nothing was wrong with it. It was still to hot inside the apartment (it was only April) so we opened our windows and slinding door. The screen door doesnt shut all the way show mosquitos were coming inside like crazy. After being bit to many times we asked again for them to send someone out to check our A/C. Three more times later, no on had come out. The final straw with the A/C was our baby who is 5 months old woke up in the morning with bites all over her face and legs. I demanded that someone take care of the problem. That was like pulling teeth. An outside contractor checked our A/C and said that it was fried and should of been replaced a year ago. They finally broke down and replaced our A/C.
We were told by the staff that there is no mosquito or ant problem. They were wrong!!
Security could be better. We had a bike stolen, our car vandalized, clothes stolen from the laundry room and yes even a man walking around naked once in the middle of the night. The night monitor was called and nothing was done about it. They made it seem like it was no big deal. There is children that live here. Its not just ASU students.
The staff has something left to be desired. For one there needs to be someone muture and responsible. Not just young women. There is other things that they need to be doing other than having Taco Bell at there desk with there boyfriend and not helping you when theyre the only one there. If your top priority is to be phony then the staff at DPV is very good at it. I have noticed how well they treat the men tenants much better than the women. I overhear them telling prospects how the swimming pool is heated (the heater is never on), the computer lab with its internet(that is never working. It doesnt take a month to get it fixed) they dont inform you that there is train tracks right in your back yard, they say there is a waiting list to rent an apartment. ( there is always empty apartments around our unit. Right now there is six out of eight of them empty in our area) The staff is always leaving fliers on your door to get your friends to rent there. It is made pretty obvious that they are desperate for people to move in. We were told that we HAD to renew our lease. Once we told them we didnt have to, then they basically started to beg.
We have talked to neighbors and the have just as many complaints. If the apartments were updated, no more ugly early 80s brown carpet, lino and cabinets, floorboads coming off, the original appliances, a better trained and more muture staff, apartments to be ready to move into and maintenance and night monitors that dont make you feel nervous about asking for their help, it wouldnt be to bad of a place to live. I would say it difinatley is not a good place to live if your a single female. The neighbor who is female was in the shower when maintenance entered their apartment when she didnt give them permisson. We havent had that experience, but who knows if it happens that close to home anything can happen.
