Going down hill from when I moved in

I used to love living in Foxfire. That was before all of the management left at the same time, and in the case of Shirley, without warning. I can only wonder if they left voluntarily, or were forced out. The new management have a lot to be desired & seem to show no concern for the residents. They make no effort to clean up outside vacant apartments, so any vacancies are covered in menus and flyers, a sure sign that nobody is around. That's not good for security in a complex that has already been declining in safety over the past couple of years. While construction was going on, workers constantly parked next to my reserved spot, constantly dinging it with their doors and once spattering it with concrete I returned home on multiple occasions to find workmen parked in it. When I told this to the management (both new and old - this was all during the transition), they seemed unconcerned.

The biggest issue is that the front gate breaks several times a week. I pay more to live in a gated community, but with the gate wide open, the rent price is not justified. They recently spent a lot of money on the property, putting on new paint, resurfacing the parking lot, resurfacing the pools, and replacing the ramadas. In certain light, the buildings now look orange. The parking lot looked exactly how it used to after the first dust storm. The ramadas took weeks to finish, and consist of wood pieces with huge gaps in between, doing little to keep sun or rain out. They seem pretty pointless to me. They also remodeled the office TWICE! I went in one time and it had been redone, then a month later when I went back it had been redone again. I can only imagine how much this all cost.

Now they are of course jacking up rents. Somehow I don't think a fresh coat of paint on the outside of my apartment, plus random paint spatterings on my window, merit a $100 jump in rent on top of other rent increases that have taken place to keep it in line with other rents in Tempe. No matter how much this place will try, it's not the upscale place that it would like to be.

I will say though that Tomas, the maintenance guy, is great. He's always tried to fix any problems, no matter how much the front office would try to deny that anything was wrong, or fail to convey the urgency of the issue (like when the AC went out in my apartment on a 95 degree day - apparently they don't consider it an emergency unless it is over 100 outside).

I don't know what I am going to do at this point - it's time to renew soon, but seeing as I am planning on moving out of state within the next 6 months or so, I don't want to get trapped in another lease at a property that is declining despite its outward appearance.
