An older complex; one which a coat of paint will not make new. That said, I enjoyed living there for the most part. In 1996-7, we had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath upstairs unit in the two-story building, so were spared some of the problems of this complex. The multi-story buildings are apparently newer (although we're still talking '70s here), but you have that many more neighbors to deal with.

In the 2-story building, the walls between units are concrete, a nice noise baffler. However, when not needing to run AC or heat, you just might have, say, your windows and patio screen door open to catch the breeze, hmmm' Unfortunately, if a neighbor decides to throw a party, you'll know what hors doeuvres were served. Not cool at 2 AM when you have to be at work at 7 AM. Security won't respond for hours--if at all. Best bet is to call the police, who probably won't respond either and resign yourself to a sleepless night, or turn on your very noisy AC as a white-noise maker. (That's what we did. Often.). Also, it may sound petty to complain about them, but the ducks are quite noisy in the early morning. And if you're unlucky enough to live on the first floor, they'll poop on your patio. Of course, we didn't mind that on behalf of our inconsiderate and noisy downstairs neighbor! ;-)

Another advantage of the 2-story building is that several of the units have washer/dryer hook-ups in the patio storage unit. This can save you a bundle in an complex that pays for water--which it seems they no longer do. But they did pay for water when we were there, and we benefited by having our own W/D--saved about $60-80/month by not having to use the coin-op laundromat. (Lots of laundry in our household!)

Views of the lake were also best in the 2-story building, IMO. Having gone up to the roof of one of the multi-story buildings once to watch fireworks, I wasn't impressed enough with the view--assuming you even faced the lake--to warrant paying a premium for an apartment in one of them. (That's right. The multi-story building's units had higher rent than the units in the 2-story building. Go figure. The 2-story building is much more on the lake than the multi-story ones!)

Parking, if you live in or very near the 2-story building, is ample. There are TONS of extra spaces back there in which tenants could park boats, toys, etc. A 2-car family would have no problem finding unassigned covered parking for both cars. Pavement was in pretty bad shape--lots of potholes, etc. Also it was a bit of a slalom getting back there from the front gate, unless you snuck in the outgoing gate when it was open! ;-)

The kitchens all suck. They're way too small and have really nasty old cabinetry, which they'd painted white to make a little less ugly than their original dark, '70s color. All other fixtures/features of the apartment interiors were quite average to below average. You rent here for the lake view, not much else, and only a few apartments really have a view.
