Don't Move In Here!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 1/10/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
This was my first time moving out on my own. Naturally I was very head strong and didn't want to ask for help from my parents. BIG MISTAKE! I have been living here now for 9 months and I can not wait for my lease to be over in March.
First off, this place is so old. When I first moved into my apartment, there was this awful smell that reminded me of a really nasty hotel room which I could not get rid of. Again, I have been here for 9 months and I still can't fully get rid of the odor. The rent is way to high! I am paying about $700 a month for a studio that is only about 500 square feet.
There have been problems here with the water now on several occasions. They have shut the water off about 4 times now and about 4 or 5 times have shut off the hot water! They have done this always with no notification. I am lucky that I have family living near by where I can go shower at just in case! Now, I have also noticed that when you call the phone number for the complex, the call is being forwarded to some third party. The management doesn't even want to deal with the problems.
The other thing that really ticked me off when I first moved in was the fact that I could not get cable! They don't allow Cox here. The only cable provider they allow is Qwest and DirecTV which are both one in the same! The location of my apartment does not allow a signal for a satellite. The only offer they have is their own cable system which is $40 for 40 channels!
I just received a letter from the complex about a "Lease Renewal Party". They state that if I sign now, my rent will be $640 which is $40 less than what I pay now. Wonderful and all but if I go to Rent.com or some other sites, the rent listed for my studio is between $579-599. SHADY! Now they are also charging a $25 flat rate for electricity as a result of "rising energy costs". I think my inflated rent pretty much covers the electric bill. All in all, this place is not good for a person who likes what they pay for. I have been doing some shopping around now and there are much nicer places out there for less than I am paying now. I will NOT be renewing my lease here.
