You get what you pay for...in this case, very little.

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2005
Good:
- Close proximity to restaurants, bars and Mill Street shops.
- Pools and laundry facilities are never crowded.
- Maintenance staff fix problems quickly, without any quibbles.
- Cheap, for Tempe. Our "junior one-bed" was $519 per month - just over $606, with all the utilities etc.
Bad:
- If you don't like cockroaches, don't move here! The complex has a cockroach problem and although we kept our apartment extremely clean, kept all the plugholes stopped up and sprayed Raid around, we still had trouble with them. We were told to expect to see some when we moved to Arizona, but we didn't expect to see quite as many as this. The worst was when one crawled up my pant leg - in broad daylight, as I was sitting at my computer. We also found an egg sac in the closet (unhatched, fortunately - a dozen baby roaches would have come out of there!). I went to see the staff about this and they put our apartment on a list of apts., for a pest control man to come round and spray the place. They said he came every week to do this. I didn't know if this was a good thing or a bad thing! It seemed to me that the roaches were just circulating around the building - when they were sprayed out of one apt., they moved onto other apts., and so on.
- This area suffers from vehicle crime. Police cars were often present in the parking lots during the day and the night. When we moved here we bought bikes but other residents advised us against keeping them outside, in the cycle ranks.
- The apts were small and poky. Our "junior one bed" was a 450 sq ft room with a half wall in the middle.
- When we moved in we were told that the majority of residents were students and young professionals. But it seemed to us that many of the people here were section 8.
- Another resident told us that there was a drug problem here. I didn't experience anything to support that claim. Although there was a lot of door-knocking and brawling late at night.
To those moving to Tempe for the first time: why don't you look at Mesa' You can get much more bang for your buck there, and cities round here all look the same anyway.
