Awful place to live!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006

I have been living at Tempe Groves for close to two years, and have had nothing but problems with the management company. After we re-signed our lease for the second year, our rent was increased a substantial amount. Now that our lease is coming up for renewal again, they want to increase our rent again by over $100. When we asked if we could transfer to a two-bedroom apartment, we were informed there was a $500 transfer fee to switch apartments. We even offered to sign a new leasing contract, but they were adamant about not waiving the fee. When asked what the fee was for, they stated it was for cleaning costs. Aren't those covered in the security deposit' They won't even clean our carpets after being there for two years.

And speaking of cleaning, these apartments are filthy! Our upstairs neighbor's garbage disposal broke, causing serious flooding in my kitchen/dining room area. It only took them about a week to fix the broken disposal, then about another two weeks to repair the water damage. The quality of the repairs was awful. They half-fast re-stapled the carpet, and now I can't walk into my kitchen barefoot for fear I'll puncture my foot on an exposed staple. About a couple weeks ago, my disposal broke too. Fearing the same type of repair timing as my neighbor, I refrained from using my kitchen sink as much as I could to prevent any type of further clogging or flooding. Five days later (with gross crap floating in my sink the whole time, smelling like poo) I finally had to fix the disposal myself, since it wasn't considered an "emergency". Apparently you have to catch on fire before anyone will even spit on you to put you out.

As far as amenities, the security gates entering the apartment complex are always broken, and have been for months. There was a security company doing a fantastic job (actually being serious) and they were let go once the new management company was brought on. The apartments recently were painted and refinished, and they did a nice job, but it's taking forever. I was completely unable to access my back patio since everything was taped off, and I came home one day to find my front door completely sealed off as well. I couldn't find any workers to ask if it was ok that I remove enough of the taping to at least unlock my door and get inside.

And the BUGS! Ants have taken over the entire outside of the complex. Every sidewalk you walk on has a trail of ants. And not just a few. The apartment complex also believes that standing water is a good thing, so mosquitoes fly around the complex in clouds. There have been a couple nights where I couldn't sleep because everytime I fell asleep, I would get bit again. I was standing there in my boxers at four in the morning trying to swat mosquitoes for an hour just so I could get a good nights sleep.

There are a couple good things though....No wait. There aren't!
