Worth it to us

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008
I lived here for two and a half years. The apartment layouts are fantastic. We were in a fourth floor loft. The location is good, the architecture is great, the noise wasn't that bad. The pools are nice when they're open, everything always worked in the fitness center, and the management team was good if you were standing in front of them.
We were not bothered by the noise, but it is a noisy place. Planes, trains, the freeway, college students, etc. When we moved in and things around the complex didn't work, we chocked it up to the hazards of being early adopters. After a year, we were a little less patient. I didn't get the impression that anyone else in the complex was calling about any problems, and apparently the management team didn't walk around. The gates really have a lot of problems.
The new management company did a terrible job communicating to the residents. If I noticed something new around, I'd call and they'd be like "Yeah, you can have dogs" or "You can have a welcome mat outside" or "Of course we have a gate code" or suddenly there's a recycling bin in the parking lot, but no information about what can go in it. I was on my third lease and no one mentioned any of those things to me until I asked about them. I found that really annoying.
Overall, if we hadn't bought a house, we would have stayed. The apartment was beautiful, I loved the location, I loved the view of downtown Tempe from my balcony, and we got in early enough that our rent was really very reasonable.
