I was very excited moving into this complex 1 year ago. Now I'm very excited to be leaving. My biggest complaint is the changes that have happened since my move-in.
Pros: I pay $700.00 a month for 720 square feet. It has two pools and hot tubs, workout facilities, laundry facilities, and I chose the upgraded apartment with new counters, appliances and faux wood flooring. Although Baseline is a busy street, I felt the location very was convenient. All sounds good, right' It did to me.
Cons: Where to begin....'''
I'll just go down the list.
Parking: The covered parking spaces have been tampered with, littered on, run into, and the covers have flown off. Took more than a week to fix. In my opinion, the construction of the covered parking is downright dangerous and the people that frequent this complex have no regard for community property. One of the residents were recently arrested for selling stolen vehicles. A previous resident had a drinking problem and ran into the covered parking several times and tore the door off their own vehicle. The crappy cars parked here have become increasingly more "pimped out" with their rims and ridiculous sound systems that they insist on blaring at all hours of the day and night.
Noise: I suppose the car business covers what noise you can expect. Add that to the residents with 5 to 7 children screaming out on the balcony or in the parking lot in diapers on any given day. We've counted. Occasionally, the numbers reach up to a dozen.
Grounds: Kept up but there is plenty of trash living in the apartments to make up for what is lacking on the ground. Not a lot of trees and grass.
Safety: I love getting my mail and watch a drug deal going down in the parking lot as I'm coming out of the mailroom. We won't mention the helicopter flying around with a spotlight announcing descriptions of two suspects involved in a shooting that took place within the complex. (That was about 3 months ago.) It's going downhill fast. Red do-rags, pants saggin', hard looks representin' Tempe. Ooooohhhh. Pa-leeez. The police have been patrolling the complex more regularly. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. At least it's safe enough that they still show up.
Construction: Insulation in the apartment is minimal. Resident quality and consideration has deteriorated since move in and so we now have elephants on the stairs that shake the apartment. The new countertops and flooring - poor quality with little durability - and I'm not the kind of person to create a lot of wear and tear.
Maintenance: When I first moved in my brand new fridge was leaking. They were quick to take it and replace it with one of the older/smaller/dirtier fridges from another apartment. Had to follow up twice in three weeks to get my replacement fridge. Not too bad. My biggest complaint is the laundry facilities are constantly breaking, the hot tubs haven't worked but once or twice since I moved in, 2 of 6 cardio machines in their "gym" actually kind of work. I think we could do without the dirty diapers laying around the parking lots and by the pools too.
Staff: The office gals are nice. I feel bad for them that they have to sell this product. Unfortunately, they have the unpleasant job of being the middle women between the management company, the maintenance staff, and the residents.
Overall: (You'll love this story.) There are very few laundry facilities. Took a load to one of them, all the washers were broken. I moved the clothes to another facility. When I went to change the load to the dryer, half the clothes were dry, half were soaked and none were clean. By the time I went to retrieve the clothing from the dryer, security decided to lock up - at 10pm. This is not posted anywhere and a couple was sitting outside as the security guard locked their clothes in the laundry room as well. The laundry has been a constant problem since I moved in.
I'm not a snood. I've lived in apartments for more than 12 years. I've seen worse. But I don't feel that charging more for amenities that aren't really available is right. The residents they've been allowing in lately seem to have a problem respecting common areas. It's not the projects, but it's getting there if it continues in the direction it's been heading. And then there are the trash bin pickers. Be sure to shred your important documents.

The one thing I will say is that the shooting you spoke of was in the complex next door not here, I live near where it happened. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that complex being a section 8 complex.

-Yes, the shooting did happen in the neighboring community, and it is unfortunate that Villagio had to suffer the consequences.
We continue to conduct our normal criminal background checks on every person over the age of 18 that applies to live here - however it is very unfortunate that we cannot stop visitors of current residents from entering our community.
