Not too bad...I survived
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 6/3/2004
Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
Ok, I'm not too set on whether this place is bad or good...it was a place to live. I made some friends, generally people were pretty friendly, and it was not a struggle to make do here.
The Property: An idiot definitely designed this place. It's a maze, most first-timers get lost multiple times. Otherwise, the actual apartments are pretty smartly designed. The first floor is above ground with the bedrooms below, and the second floor is opposite, so it minimizes the noise when you're sleeping.
The Employees: The office staff is great, they're open to answering any questions, nice, attentive, and genuinely concerned if you have any problems. But I didn't come up to them yelling all the time.
The Security: Before I signed a lease, I came to a party here and the "courtesy officers" (think about a rent-a-security guard, but worse, with bad attitudes and on a power trip) told you where the parties were, made sure nobody pulled a gun on you, and made sure the police didn't come because there was a raging party in the parking lot. This year, these guys are the biggest a-holes. If someone walked out the door holding a bottle of beer (still inside the apartment complex) they would shut that party down. So for those of you that want to do your non-dorm thing and chill by the pool with a beer, this ain't the place. They are strict about alcohol, and generally not fun to be around.
The Apartment: The actual workmanship of the apartment is like a 1960's apartment that was built with pretty crappy materials and then painted over and over during the years. The carpets usually have stains, the furniture is something a bum would reject if he found it on the street for the garbage man to dump. Otherwise, the space is really big; bigger than you'll find in any apartment on or off campus. That was the main reason I chose to live here.
Breaking stuff: Our shower broke 3-5 times (I kinda lost count)(it took from an hour to 3 days fix at different occurrences). My closet somehow broke and wouldn't close (fixed same day). The lock broke (fixed within 10 minutes). The maintenance crew is really fast (although their actual skill is questionable, otherwise, I don't know why a shower would break 3-5 times).
Overall, it's not a bad place to live. You have a huge apartment, and all the things you need in a college apartment. Some of those occurrences stated in previous reviews have happened, I have heard first hand accounts (bum broke into one apartment over thanksgiving, mushrooms growing in the living room when a pipe broke).
And the best part is you're 2 blocks from campus. Location, location, location.
