Decent apartment, but beware of management!

The apartments themselves here are decent for the price. The 1 bedroom apartments are fairly large, and at the time they were furnished with cheap but serviceable furniture. Noise was occasionally a problem, mostly with the fraternity house next door having parties/gatherings late at night (weeknights and weekends). Maintenance was a little slow but eventually fixed things if you bugged the management enough. It's a 3 story building that has no elevators, which is normally ok but becomes an issue when moving things or if you have guests who use a wheelchair. The use of parking permits usually insures that you find a parking spot, but there is no parking available for guests. Safety is a little iffy... thieves and other shady types frequent the area and I've never seen any security, so stay alert and don't keep ANY valuables in sight because stuff DOES get stolen. The location is very convenient for UA students and is close to many restaurants and 4th avenue.
Now unfortunately there's a big downside... the management is TERRIBLE! The same management who runs Arizona Commons also took over Casa Blanca Apartments just after I moved in, and if you check the Arizona Commons ratings you'll have an idea of what they're like. The whole time I was there they did not have an on-site manager (they posted up a sign saying they would have one soon... that same sign was still up after 9 months when I moved out), so anytime you needed to see management or even just make a payment you'd have to walk over to Arizona Commons. Some of the staff were nice when talking with them, but if you happen to need them to DO something you usually get the runaround. The worst experience by far, though, was trying to get my deposit back despite having left my apartment spotless. I called the manager REPEATEDLY over a three month period, each time being assured it would be sent out immediately. Eventually I just had to wait until I came back to Tucson in the fall. It was only when I came to their office handing them a letter threatening to take them to court (and embarrassing them by explaining their negligence in detail in front of a half-dozen prospective tenants, which I admit was satisfying) that they finally found the motivation to give me my money back. To sum up, the management is very shady and will likely try to cheat you. Sadly, most tenants are younger students who don't know any better, so the management probably gets away with this most of the time.
The tragedy is that if it weren't for the awful management I would recommend the place, at least for students. But the fact is the management is awful and there are plenty other nearby apartments with better management. If you're a glutton for punishment and decide to rent here anyway, just document everything (i.e. take pictures of the apartment when you move in and keep a copy of the condition report) to help ensure they don't rip you off. And get used to being lied to on a regular basis.
