Let's be honest--apartment living is what it is. Limited parking, little freedom to customize your home, difficulty with apartment management and the lease, and oh-so-thin walls. But I have lived in complexes that have made apartment life bearable, even enjoyable.
Colonia and Hacienda del Rio IS NOT one of those complexes. The apartment management is unprofessional and intractable, making them impossible to deal with. They refused to honor commitments (such as installing a new carpet and honoring a quoted lease renewal rate) made by the staff, going so far as to call me a liar for suggesting that the staff had even made those commitments. When I moved in the carpet was dingy and dirty, half the walls had baseboards while half did not. The removal of the baseboards was hastily done, because it left large holes in the walls. The bathrooms were not sufficiently cleaned. In addition to problems with my own apartment, there have been several auto thefts here. I walked out of my apartment one morning to find a car on blocks! Thieves had stolen the rims and tires. Before moving here, I had lived in a large Tucson apt complex for 3 years with zero maintenance calls. In the six months I lived at this complex I have had several maintenance calls--leaky faucets, sinks, toilets, etc. The maintenance men have even had the nerve to use my decorative towels as hand towels and to dry up the leaks! Moreover, if performing maintenance on the buildings they will sometimes shut off water for hours without notice! Additionally, this complex requires two (2) months notice that you are moving out, while most complexes require only one month's notice. Please consider all of these things before you sign a lease here. The complex is pretty and in a convenient location, but it's simply not worth it. Unbearable, even by apartment standards.
