Too expensive for what you get

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
I lived here for a year and can say in terms of the total experience it was a great waste of money. The Highlands is surrounded by beutiful landscaping, weight room and a very nice pool, which are all great, but when it comes to living in the apartments there is much to be desired. Most of the apartments face each other so you have a view of the parking lot or of another apartment.
It is advertused as a gated community, but none of the gates are ever locked and one can often here drunken yelling and fighting on the weekends.
There is no security, despite what they may tell you. The maintenece people are usually quick to respond, but also tend to do shoddy work as I had to have my dishwasher (1980?s model) repaired 3 different times for leaking and then Highlands tried to charge me for the water damage to the floor, when they should have replaced the unit in the first place.
The bathrooms are very cramped and in mine you couldn?t even open the drawers all the way because the toilet is right against the sink. In addition the shower leaks out into the bedroom, which resulted in a constant odor of mold, which they did nothing to fix.
The windows are very old and offer no protection against the heat, cold or sound. The kitchen is also cramped as well as the living room becuase of its odd set-up, which makes it feel even smaller than it already is.
after living here for a year I cannot understand why anyone would live at Highlands when there are so many opther great choices avaiable at much better prices. Aside from the pool I cannot think of a single reason to chosse this over any other. You will also have to pay about $20 a month for water that is used for the swimming pool and to water the grounds.
The staff is usually not helpful concerning any problems and will just refer to company policy and wash their hands of any problems you may encounter. And don't even think about getting your deposit back, so don't waste your time cleaning thinking that you will. All it will amount to is more lost time and money. You may also get sued if "their" exhorbinant cleaning bill exceeds what you paid in your deposit, so be forewarned.
