My wife and I recently worked travel-nursing contracts in Tuscon and spent 3 months at La Reserve Apartments. We shopped hard for our place and feel we made the perfect choice. We found the staff more than accomodating and the grounds attractive and impeccably maintained. I work at night and sleep during the day and can say the place is very quiet. Pusche Ridge blasts up several thousand feet just behind the La Reserve development. This is perhaps one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the area and the scenery from our back porch was simply gorgeous!
We worked in town and the drive is indeed a few minutes more but Oro Valley is an upscale and carefully planned community and keep in mind; Tucson proper has a very high crimes rate! We let our boys play outside without supervision and didn't worry about them a bit. Also, other highly desirable areas in the area such as Sabino Canyon and parts of the foothills just do not offer much of a benefit to the commute as there are more stop lights and tons of congestion (more tourists).
Finally, with a Starbucks, Target, and upscale shopping right across the street and the Saguaro studded beauty of Catalina State Park just 5 mins away; I'm not sure what else you could want in an apartment community. When we get back out to Tucson, I have no doubt we'll go back to La Reserve.
