Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2008
I moved to this complex back in 2003 to be close to family and to put my children in better schools. I had always heard it had a not so good reputation but that it was finally turning around. At first it wasn't so bad but then things started taking a turn for the worst again.
Let me describe my living experience here at Las Montanas:
1. Kids run the complex all hours of the day and night
2. People aren't considerate to keep their car radio's at a decent volume so you get serenaded with horrible music in your sleep or while your watching tv with your family.
3. Repairs aren't always done in a timely matter. During the past winter I had to survive the coldest days without heat in my unit and to keep some heat in here I had to use a space heater that my sister loaned me. It took them 2 weeks to finally get to fixing the heater. A few years back I had the same problem but that time who ever fixed the heater didn't do it right and the wire fried, it very well could have caught my apartment on fire.
4. When something does break look for the maintenance staff to accuse you of doing something wrong rather then admit that the apartments are cheap and stuff does break easily. Such as when my sink has backed up and it has done that several times while living here, I got accused of pouring grease down my sink. It made me angry so I pulled the jar I keep grease in and showed it to the maintenance man who then decided to shut up and not to say anymore. I wasn't going to stand for being falsely accused of doing something I didn't do.
5. The buildings are cheap and things do break down pretty easily and its not well insulated so your electric bill will spike up.
6. The leasing agents they have hired are not any better. They managed to lose important paperwork and even a lease of mine! So don't expect them to be very professional and have their acts together. This place has also had a turn over of property managements. The only time they want to see you in the office is when your paying your rent, moving in or renewing your lease the rest of the time they don't want to deal with you or any problems that are going on.
7. Look around you. You will see people moving out and if you walk the grounds you will see just how much Las Montanas really loves its residents. This is because usually some broken down car takes away from safe and close parking. Broken playground equipment so your children can't play outside safely. At night you see broken lighting fixtures which make this an even more unsafe place to walk around at night not to mention dangerous.
8. Roaches are a huge problem like someone already stated. I have been fighting with them for awhile. How many times can you possibly bug bomb your unit and still see them coming through your walls' I should have taken up stock in raid! I have no doubt that the roaches will continue to be Las Montanas's longest resident. FYI ants and scorpions are known to show up in units as well.
9. During the summer the pools aren't kept clean like they should be and bee's are a major pain. Two of my children have been stung by bee's. Good thing they weren't allergic to the bee's. The apartment complex doesn't see either the roach or bee problems as a problem.
10. If a major appliance such as your stove goes out don't expect them to give you a new one. You will get one of equal quality as the one you complained about if not in worser shape. My stove was a death trap alone. Its been known to create its own BBQ!
11. Don't expect your house not to leak and it will take them forever to fix it. Just make sure you keep anything of value to you away from the leaky ceiling. Oh and they will tell you to put pans down so it doesn't ruin the precious carpet while they take their time getting out to fix the roof.
12. Security is a joke. We have only had a set of officers who actually did care about the kids running the complex and they would make sure the kids got home and stayed home all the while dealing with some dangerous stuff in the complex such as druggies, people breaking into houses and cars. But usually don't expect to see actual security around the complex because chances are you won't. And when you do see them, do expect them to bother you and even tell you that your apartment doesn't exist and that your not a resident. How nice huh'
13. It is true that the Tucson Police Department practically lives here. This is not a safe complex for anyone who cares about their children and themselves. And when anyone mentions the police being here all the time, they are not lying. Please expect to hear helicopters to be flying over the complex at night. Be prepared for the occasional Las Montanas lock down and police not letting you leave for work and etc till things calm down.
Basically if you want to move here do so at your own risk. If substandard roach infested living is for you, then here is your place! I am glad I am out of here.
