Keep Looking North

What used to be a nice community when I had friends living here in 1995 is now a run-down, trashy place for relatively cheap, if you're stuffing a 5-member family into a 2-bedroom (and they do.)
For a mid-sized community, only 1 maintenance person is on staff (they've been through 3 since I moved here 10 months ago) and repairs are done only with repeated requests (over 2 months in some cases.)
The neighbors are mostly friendly, but the weekly drunken domestic squabble that carries out to the sidewalk is the norm here. Also...do NOT rent with an apartment above you! Paper-thin ceilings.
Location is good, near tons of good restaurants, banks, and between 2 good shopping malls.
But really, for the money (especially the lofts & 2-bedrooms) you can do much better at locations north of here, even places that have at least SOME security patrols.
