Not a bad choice given your other options in Tucson

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
I lived at Promontory for approximately two years and never had a major problem. Following are the positives and negatives I noticed.
The positives:
*Grounds - The landscaping is nice, much better than other complexes in the area
*Parking - There is covered parking, although it is not reserved
*Space/storage - The apartments are of decent size, most with some storage attached to the balcony
*Staff - I found the staff to be helpful, but it is true that they will find any excuse to keep your cleaning deposit when you move out
The negatives:
*Thin walls/noise from neighbors - I would definitely recommend getting an apartment on the top floor
*General security - As several other reviewers have noted, the security gates are really a joke and are almost always propped open with rocks. If the management ever decided to establish and *enforce* a "closed gate" policy, this would go a long way in improving the problem
*Neighborhood - There is definitely a car theft problem. Try Googling "Promontory" along with "auto theft top ten" and you'll see what I mean. I personally never had a problem, but then again I wasn't driving what would be considered a desirable car.
Even with the negatives, I think Promontory is a decent pick, especially for a UA student looking to escape some of the rowdier complexes you'll find farther south. I would, however, recommend asking about the current security situation before signing a lease and I would definitely insist on being present during the move-out inspection so you don't get charged unjustified cleaning fees.
