NEVER RENT HERE

This place was the worst experience with renting I've ever had. I mean, picture the worst case scenario...this was it. When I first went in to inquire they were super nice and talked about being a crime free community, having church assemblies in the lobby, etc (granted I'm not a christian, but I thought it was a nice idea, christians are good people right'). It just so happened that there was going to be a newly remodeled 2 bedroom available right next to the pool and near the main office, which I was told was "the prime spot to be...there are some shady characters towards the back of the complex." Of course normally this would deter me, but the price was good (Prices were $750, but our apartment was $788 because of the remodeling plus $10 extra every month for my dog), we were in a hurry to rent, and the people seemed very friendly so we accepted.

First things first! PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, BE SURE TO TAKE PICTURES AND WRITE EVERY SINGLE FLAW YOU FIND ON YOUR RENTERS AGREEMENTS! GET EVERYTHING YOU DO WITH MANAGEMENT IN WRITING, AND TAKE PICTURES OF WHAT MAINTENANCE DOES AS WELL, YOU NEED AS MUCH EVIDENCE AS YOU CAN GET IN THE CASE THAT YOU TOO END UP GETTING SCREWED OVER LIKE WE DID!

Unfortunately from day 1 there were problems. We couldn't move in at the agreed upon date as they had not completed the remodeling. We moved in 2 weeks later at which time the bathroom (which was TINY! Like a closet) was unfinished, and the narrow staircase lead me to leave my mattress box frame downstairs in the living room for the entire rental period, and ants and roaches were in the kitchen. They said they'd finish the bathroom in the week and I said that would be fine. 3 months passed and they still hadn't finished the bathroom. In fact, the spray they used to "remodel" the bath tub was peeling off and I still had no drawers, plus there were still bugs everywhere. Another thing that I noticed was that at the top of the staircase large stains were starting to appear on the carpeting, like bleach had been dropped on it or something.

I hate to complain unless absolutely neccessary, in fact I pride myself on my patience and most of all my honesty, but it had been too long so I went into the office and mentioned the bathroom, and the bugs to them. During this time there were other issues that I also needed to mention. Kids were screaming and having parties after midnight in the pool which was where my bedroom window was. I couldn't sleep! I'm a pretty heavy sleeper but the walls were paper thin so I could hear EVERYTHING! When my neighbor walked my floors shook, when they showered the walls and plumbing creeked. On top of that, this prime spot was in fact the worst spot to be as EVERY SINGLE APARTMENT at the front of the building was monitored due to the fact that the residents were either recovering drug addicts, ex-convicts, or just senile elderly. There wasn't a day that I was comfortable being there, and I always kept my dog nearby and door locked at night. I tried to be friendly with my neighbors as I usually do anywhere I live, I'd wave at everyone that passed by. I'd say 1 out of every 20 people would respond. The 2 elderly women next door were so creepy, one would would bang on our door constantly claiming that someone was in their apartment, etc...and the other would often walk by, stop at our window and just stare in. If I caught her doing it she wouldn't budge, she'd just start staring at me! The corner neighbor in the front would knock on my door and solicite me for money. I was constantly humiliated when guests came to visit because he would sit in his lawn chair all day and when walked by he'd get up and ask them for pot or meth or cocaine or a dollar. It was so embaressing.

So when I made mention of this to Sandy, the manager, she said "oh no no this is a crime free complex" and next thing I know he was replaced by another degenerate that would do the same thing! Did I mention there were police cars with lights on almost every night' Yes! There were! Almost everynight! It would be like a disco party in my bedroom! My boyfriend and I would come home from a bike ride and someone would always be getting arrested! Or people would be screaming at eachother and the police would be breaking up the scuff...it was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! So when our lease was up of course we had absolutely no intentions of staying, HA! In fact she had the nerve to increase the rent to $825.

We did the walk through with Sandy. I pointed out how the bathroom was still incomplete...they never finished the bathroom! Still no drawers or cabinet doors, peeling and clogged bath tub, etc. I also pointed out the stains on the carpet and how I noticed them right off the bat, and she claimed that these were new carpets and that the stains must be from us! I told her that was impossible, we had nothing in the house that could stain the carpet like that, and that it must be her handy man since they had been entering and exiting the house for months to supposedly complete the bathroom renovation which was never finished. She said she'd talk to him later and that we'd receive our deposit in a couple of weeks. Instead I received a letter requesting that we send her $132 more dollars to replace the carpet that her employee had destroyed! I was furious, I had received no deposit back, we were miserable for the entire 6 month period, and my boyfriend and I had fought constantly due to the suffocating amount of stress we endured living there.

I thought it was bad when I lived there, but your experience was much worse than ours. I bet Sandy didn't mention that the complex was section 8 when you rented from them? But then Sandy always did have trouble distinguishing reality from fantasy (I still have the photos to prove it!).
