I lived in Sterling for 2 years. The first year, I didn't have too many problems- other than the crappy bar stools constantly falling apart and the grumpy office staff. I was not home to often though so I didn't get a real taste for their disfunction until the next year. Our water heater was broken for a good 6 months, our refrigerator spontaneously shut off several times (never to be replaced or fixed) my car was broken into and almost stolen and I got into a fight with the management almost every day. At the end of the school year, I threatened to sue, refused to pay the 3 months of summer rent and had to have a face to face battle with the visiting representative from corporate about my break of contract. I would recommend fighting your summer rent if you are unhappy. I told them that my standard of living was completely inadequate and that I didn't feel safe at the complex (I completely agree with one of the other accounts about the searchlights from the helicopters every night). If you currently have a contract- get out! If not, don't even consider signing!

I am going through that same thing, except for a medical condition. And they do not even care, but I told them I was leaving, and now I have to fight with all kinds of people and talk just to fight for my rights.
