The building is generally well-maintained: when something goes wrong, maintenance takes care of it, if not always a in as timely a fashion as we would like. (One person for all these apartments...) Our apartment has huge rooms and is well laid out. The air filter system works well when we remember to have the filters changed, and we seldom need to use the air conditioning. The pool and its area are clean and well-maintained. The monthly bagel breakfasts and birthday gatherings, and the Thanksgiving party are a plus and help engender a feeling of community. The manager, the maintenance person and the building cleaning person are all pleasant, efficient and helpful. Problems: cigarette smoke from within the apartments filters into the hallways and through the air ducts; major maintenance work - elevators, hallway lighting, a leaky roof - sometimes takes too long to fix, although I understand that they involve outside contractors at times. The lobby is spacious and well-maintained, although I preferred the old seating and tables - they were more conducive to friendly gatherings. All in all, I recommend the Van Buren highly.
