I lived in these apartments from 2003 through 2005. First off, I will say that they weren't terrible. I'm sure it could have been a lot worse, and I didn't lose sleep thinking that I might be killed. For those things I'm grateful. But I think that that has little to do with the complex itself, but rather with the area it is in, which is comparatively safe.

Pros:

1. The maintenance guys. About 90% of the time they were right on the scene, even more quickly than the time I was quoted. There was only one issue that ever came up that required more than one visit from maintenance guys, and I think that had more to do with the management not prioritizing my problem and less with the men themselves. That was related to the AC unit leaking into my floor. Not exactly death-defying, but annoying. Dave was great...wonder if he still works there'

2. Nice grass and trees. Someone even rode their horse through to let him graze once.

3. I'll admit it. The apartments are big. If your kids need to run around, they can do it here. Lots of room in the front. This comes with a caveat, though. Big apartment, but NO outside storage. Your walk-in closet will turn into your garage, I assure you.

4. Relatively clean and problem-free as far as general maintenance is concerned. Worst problem I had, again, was the AC issue. I think a couple of cabinet doors may have come loose, but no big deal. I heard that some neighbors had roaches, but I never saw a one. Wonder if they ever mopped their kitchen. I should note that my husband delivered pizzas at the time and he saw a large percentage of the apartments; most of them weren't as clean as ours.

Cons:

1. Rent was raised by quite a lot early in the game to pay for "improvements" which apparently included "upgrading the electricity" (replacing some wires with copper ones, I think') and repaving/repainting the parking lot. Yahoo. I think it went up somewhere between $60-80 including the bogus "water charge" where you get to pay them what THEY think you would spend on water, which is a lot more than you probably would. While it was worth the money when we moved in, it wasn't when we moved out.

2. The longer we stayed there, the more ghetto the people got. I began to feel scared to go to the soda machine at night because of the people loitering until all hours. Some guys were randomly threatening my husband while he was just walking by. It frequently smelled like weed. It became more and more creepy.

3. This one really annoys me. I got "charged" a month's rent for not notifying them that I was not renewing my lease. Now, it DID say that that would happen in my lease. I would be more willing to admit fault for this if I hadn't received a letter a month or two before I left telling me to notify them if I WAS going to be renewing my lease. I assumed they had changed their policy, or I definitely would have notified them. There was absolutely no leniency for this on the part of Nikki, the manager('), and she even acted like we were trying to be sneaky. There was NO call for this treatment, because we were great, quiet tenants who always paid our rent. It honestly felt like a scam. You'll notice that earlier I put the word "charged" in quotes; I did that because I refused to pay it. I think that the management is something of a "con", although one lady was nice. They also wouldn't give back my deposit, because of the above "offense". That ticks me off because I work hard to clean my apartment when I leave because I NEED that money. I have kids to feed! It's very annoying when you try to do the right things and you get treated badly anyway.

So, I think this apartment was about average. BUT, I wish I could give this apartment a lower than average score, to try to even out all the "good" scores it got earlier. I would bet MONEY that the office people did that...it's not a coincidence that so many of the good scores were posted within a couple of days of each other (January, 2005) and many of them have little to no description.
