My fiance and I lived at Zona Verde for the two years we were in Arizona working on our post-graduate degrees. Without hesitating, I can honestly say that this place is the embodiment of Evil and should be avoided at all costs.
To begin with, as others have mentioned, the crime rate in this area is staggeringly high. The landscaping and grounds are nice, but with no fences or gates anywhere, the property acts as a magnet for drifters and villains alike. Dumpsters are plundered, bikes stolen, cars routinely broken into in the various parking lots (if not outright stolen as well), and so forth. This is all during the day.
From there, things go into a bit of a decline. The night-time is when the situation spirals out of control. Not only are there the continued problems with the criminals and homeless as mentioned above, the actual tenants of Zona Verde take to the grounds with a vengeance and wreak havoc in a drug/alcohol-fueled orgy of Rage and Chaos. Nothing is sacred, and you will watch in disbelief as property is vandalized, "music" is blasted on multiple stereo systems well past 3:00 AM at large parties, groups of people scale the sides of apartments and run around all over the rooftops, and that is only the beginning. Windows get broken, guns/knives are drawn, fights break out. Scores of meat-headed, not legal drinking age jocks can be found drinking, shouting, and also publicly using drugs. And not just on the week-end, we're talking 7 days a week of waking up in the middle of the night to phone the police.
Don't expect the management to do anything about this, either. Even after many tenants complained, the most I was able to get out of them was that they'd look into hiring a security guard, but that it would add considerably to the already inexplicably high rent. This never happened obviously. Threatening legal action also has no effect. A neighbor of mine was living below someone who would often practice their drum kit (!) at 1:00 or 2:00 AM, and talk of lawyers and lawsuits did nothing to solve the problem.
The message is clear: Stay away from Zona Verde Apartments. Don't be fooled. It's quiet during the day when they show you the place because everyone sleeps until well past noon. (How else can you be expected to party so hard')
Or rather, if you're a self-destructive 18 year old male who's into drugs and alcoholism, obnoxious hip-hop, skanks, blaring car stereos, and enjoys making monkey sounds at 4:00 AM, you'll be welcomed here with open arms.
