I moved here 2 years ago. The main selling point was the pool and the gym. I soon found out that it's hard to use the sports facilities because of the ghetto vibe. Sometimes it's okay, sometimes it isn't, depending on who's there. Due to the proximity of the high school, there are bands of roving youth who seem to be from Oakland, who hang out in front of my apartment, making drug deals, or just walking through the complex, looking for something to steal. They also use the pool. I would never accuse them of trespassing. I would also never complain to management, because...some of the office staff seem not to be people persons, and I am more comfortable avoiding them. Edith and Nina are nice, though. The whole complex is noisy and overcrowded, due to the multi-cultural and immigrant contingent. Yes, my grandparents were poor immigrants, too, and wonderful people, but that doesn't mean I have to live in a place that's similar to the slum my grandparents left over a hundred years ago. There are too many people per apartment, because some of the poor people can't afford to live here otherwise. Also, West Alameda is not like the rest of Alameda. It's definitely downscale, and has more than its share of crime. During the summer, thugs from Oakland use our streets for their drag races or to just park at night and blast their music. On weekend nights I've heard gunshots occasionally. It's quieter now, because it's too cold for the thugs to hang out. My apartment is very damp, and there is a silverfish problem. Weird! I won't renew my lease, I can get more square feet in a better area for the same money.

I think your comments are a little racist. I agree about the pool and the highschoolers, but they aren't all -----. The dampness in these apartments give me the worst asthma attacks and there is mold in my bathroom. This place does suck, but not because there are different ethnicities living here, its because they stopped paying for security to patrol the premises.

Good god. They should put up a sign at the front of the leasing office saying "WELCOME TO HELL! Prepare to sign your life away." =)

You sound ignorant. It sounds like you have been living in a bubble being that you are so judgemental about your --------'s religion. I hope you will grow up and learn to appreciate the differences of peoples color and religions. You are most likely a boring, uptight ----- person who thinks Americans should all act and look like you. Ive seen those young kinds you are speaking of and they are just KIDS. They have no manners but it has nothing to do with race. You live in an apartment complex with families. I am guessing there will be more low income families moving in because those rents are quite low. Times are changing. If you want complete serenity buy a house or learn how to quit your bitchin.
