I am a 15 year veteran of the US Coast Guard. I moved to Ballena Village in August of 2006. I traveled extensively during the 10 months that I lived there. I received orders for a permanent change of duty station. I told the apartment manager approximately 1.5 months in advance that I would be moving the first of August. When I paid my July rent on the 3rd I again told them I was moving. After I moved, on the 7th of August, I cleaned the apartment military style. About a month later I received a letter stating that not only did they keep all of my security deposit for outlandish reasons but because I needed to move one month prior to my lease ending that I owed an additional $850.00. Yes, there is a military clause BUT they claim I did not meet it because of official notice given on the 3rd of July verses the 1st. The apartment manager even acknowledges that I gave proper notice but claims her hands are tied due to upper management. She "lowered" my balance due to $354.00. Wow, I was a great tenant and did nothing wrong. I just gave Ballena Village $1154.00 ($800.00 security and additional $354.00) of my hard earned money for no reason other than their ability to scam the innocent person that simply needs a place to live.
