I was a bit skeptical since this was my first apartment. No the units aren't the absolute best. There are no closets in the bedrooms and no dishwashers. But as far as service from management and maintenance, I was more than impressed. I will take service over amenities any day.
I had very few problems in my unit and of the ones I had, they were fixed immediately. The maintenance guy is friendly and on top of things. The place is safe. Once and again some outsiders went in the clubhouse, but they were shooed away and haven't been a problem in a long time.
I've left my car unlocked and with the windows down on several instances. I've never had a problem. In fact I went on vacation and left my windows down in the rain. The maintenance guy took it upon himself to cover my car in plastic so it wouldn't get damaged. He really went above and beyond. That's rare these days.
As for management, they always get back to you within a day and don't hesitate to work to resolve issues. On top of that, they're very friendly.
I highly recommend the Franciscan Apartments. They're right on the beach with a great view of the City. Everything you need is within walking distance--Safeway, Blockbuster, Bed Bath & Beyond, dry cleaners, Japanese food, Chinese food, pet store, sporting goods... It's all there.
