I agreed and disagreed with some of the review I've read below. The one thing that everybody should know that there is asbestos on the ceiling, which is something that they didn't mention until lease signing. Wasn't very happy when I found out. It should have been told to me at the beginning so that I could decide whether or not to proceed with the lease...not at lease signing when I had no time to find other place.
I also agree with the cigarette smoke issue. I know that the neighbor directly above me is a smoker. He frequently turned on the bathroom air suction (whatever they called), and it's loud. I am able to tell whether he is home or not by the noise and smell. The wall is pretty thin so I can hear my neighbor's tv, people walking on the hallway, and some dude yelling at some girl. The hot tub is being dominated by large men, i.e. more than overweight people. There is no way I am getting in that hot tub with them.

Otherwise, the gym is decent and I save $40/month for gym membership. I feel safe so far because you need a key or access card to get into the building. Love the underground parking but hate the height, the garage is only 6' high i.e. no uhaul. My apartment is facing the back of the building. Very quiet and cool in the summer time. Maintenance has been very quick to fix the issue that I have, which is not many at all. It's easy to get to the beach and stores. They are all within walking distance. If only the price is more comparable to the space, I might stay another year.

I think all multi-units in Alameda should be smoke free. Why should someone who wants to ruin their health, ruin ours with their second hand smoke. Also, if a landlord rents to someone and they know their building has asbestos in it, I am wondering if they can be sued. Something to check in to. The prices on these units are way too high for Alameda. You can get a nicer place for less than these prices.
