I have lived in Summer House for a year, and will not be renewing my lease for the following reasons:
The walls really are un-insulated, and are constructed from 1/2 inch drywall. Some noise is to be expected when living in an apartment community, but having to listen to your neighbor snore is horrible. Sometimes I'm afraid the people upstairs will fall through the ceiling. If you have people living upstairs, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
The plumbing is not so good. Waking up to raw sewage in your toilet and shower is awful. You probably cannot imagine what it's like until it happens to you; and if you currently reside at Summer House, it will eventually happen.
Water and garbage are shared expenses. That was fine when I first moved in, but Summer House is quickly becoming a "Family Apartment Complex". I do not want to pay for the family of 5's showering, dishwashing and trash.
This may seem small, but 2 light have been out in the hallway for about 4 months. This is an axample of how infrequently the management staff "walks" through the complex for maintenance purposes.
Now for the "good stuff".
Rent is CHEAP! If you can see past things like little thug-lets running around the complex and pool, your car getting a few dings in the parking lot, sewage problems, shared expenses, and thin walls then this place is for you.
Parking is a free for all. If someone is parked in your spot, just take the nearest open spot. (easy right!) I got to give the parking a 5 !
The neighbors upstairs are very giving. They sweep the bird seed off their balconies onto your patio furniture. One of my personal favorite Summer House amenities.
Summer House will give you a GREAT incentive to move in! I think they gave me a month and a half free rent to move in. After you pay rent for a year, (on time of course) Summer House will offer you $50 off your next months rent and a FREE CARPET SHAMPOO! Now I know what your thinking, "with that sort of incentive to stay, how could I possibly wish to leave"'. I labored over my decision litterally for minutes, but eventually decided to find another place to live.
The truth of the matter is if you are a young semi-professional (bartender/retail sales/etc.) person, or if you have a family, Summer House is perfect for you. If you need motivation to purchase a home, stay a year at Summer House. You will save a bunch of money and that motivation will come.
Good Luck with your apartment search.

Very well said. I moved here from NYC and let me tell you, I prefer sleeping with the sound of the police and FDNY sirens, loud music from passing cars and fights, rathan to listen every single step of my 300 lbs neighbors or them making love at 4am.
