Living here has been horrible!

I have to say - I cannot wait until our lease is up so we can leave! We have had so many issues with the management here, and overall they have not been friendly or helpful to us.

Our parking was "temporarily reassigned" to a spot ridiculously far from our apartment. Well we've been parking there for 9 months now, and just recently we asked about it again and they said they'd add us to the waiting list for a new spot. Which, did I mention, they told us they were doing already about ten times previously'

I often hear about things from the management way too late, or they give us notices about things making it sound like we're about to be evicted and it's our last chance for offenses we have not perpetrated or things we had never heard about before. They post rude notices on ours and our neighbors doors. I'm sorry, but I don't need to know if my neighbors are late in their payments and they do not need to know if I am. Also, they have double-charged me for dues that I owed them. Great bookkeeping skills.

We also find the grounds are not well-kept. The pool is disgusting, unless it's too cold for anyone to use it. The residents don't care enough about their fellow community members to pick up after their dogs. There has been litter left laying about on the walkways for more than a week (read: used condom). The parking lot gates and/or remotes are frequently inoperable.

Factor in these things as well: the fitness center was closed for a long time; for several months I would come home to a wonderful marijuana smell seeping in from neighboring apartments; the machines in our laundry room are frequently out of order - and very expensive as well; the fire alarms either go off or beep incessantly ("trouble in the system") all too often; our neighbors' apartment was broken into and expensive electronics were stolen; the management asked for CASH ONLY (i.e. would not accept a money order) when there was a problem with one of our checks, despite our bank writing them a letter explaining that it was their error and not ours. The list goes on and on...

This isn't just us. As you can see in the other reviews, there are problems all around. We have talked to a few other residents and heard their horror stories about sewage backups that weren't adequately cleaned up for months. People are getting towed even though they have a summer house sticker. People are getting bullied into re-signing their lease. People are getting screwed out of their security deposits. While we were in the office once, a couple was moving out and were told they wouldn't be getting their security deposit back - BEFORE THE STAFF HAD EVEN DONE A FINAL CHECK ON THE APARTMENT! All in all, it is not worth the money to deal with this management group.

You should take them to small claimes court. Get a group of residents together. It's the only thing those people understand. They cannot evict you because you are suing them. It's considered retaliatory eviction.

Someone DID try to get a resident's meeting together and posted notes around the buildings, but the office was quick to take them down. I haven't heard anything since. I'm sick of the marijuana smell.. it seems to be a problem in every building. I think it's time that the cops were called every time and maybe they'll get the hint that it's not appreciated.

Read your lease very carefully, and check out this website: http://www.hud.gov/local/ca/renting/tenantrights.cfm Your rights totally depend on what you signed. I lived there when they first opened (Building 525), and know what you are going through. At first, the place was actually wonderful for my girlfriend and myself, but became more like college housing when some upper management douche decided to fill all 200 or whatever empty apartments in record time. The only way for you to be happy there (if you cannot break the lease) is to join the party. Go to your neighbors apartment with a bag of chips, a 6-pack of Red Stripe, and a crappy Raggae CD and do a few bong rips with them. Have a kegger @ the pool. Find out who it is that feels someone else should pick up their dogs sh** and return it to them in one of those Safeway bags you keep collecting under the kitchen cabinet. Listen to your music and TV as loud and late as you want. Check your mail or take out the trash in that canary yellow man-kini you bought on a dare in Mexico. The list goes on and on.... Are you getting the point here? Pissing and moaning accomplishes nothing short of sincere sympathy from a looser like me with WAY too much time on his hands; so enjoy your last 3 months at the "World Famous Summer House Apartments", and gain from the important life lesson.
