So far so good

We were a little concerned about moving here because we weren't sure saving $200 in rent over an Irvine Apartment Community apartment was going to be worth an extra 5-10 minutes, but we can definitely say we are glad we did it. The management are much more attentive and seem to generally care about making your rental experience here as smooth as possible. They are very accomodating - they are willing to move fridges in/out and change parking assignments if it's possible. We found that other communities with the exact floor plans in the area weren't willing to make any arrangements (and were also more expensive) so to my wife and this seemed like a good idea. The units are spacious and quiet (we don't hear our neighbors upstairs at all), closet space is plentiful and the bathroom (roman tub) and laundry room (full size washer/dryer) are more than adequate. There are also ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room for better air circulation. Our location (1st floor, by the greenbelt) is ideal as it provides a decent view (trees and hills instead of other apartments). There's a good breeze that comes in so we don't really use the A/C that much.
There are some quirky things here though. The outside corridor lighting is actually brighter than the indoor lighting. The frosted glass (1st floor only, some locations) doesn't offer much privacy as you still notice people staring in once in a while. We ended up putting drapes in the kitchen and dining room to get the lookie-loos to stop as well as to block some of the light from the corridor lighting. The mailboxes for all buildings (at least 10) is in one location, which isn't as convenient but you learn to live with it.
With two cars you'll be able to find a spot for the second car in open parking, it's just a matter of how close to your apartment you can get. Since we're in the corner of the complex we have limited open parking near us, but I haven't had a problem so far.
All in all, so far so good. Definitely give this complex consideration when looking for apartments in the Aliso Viejo area.
