Worst service I've ever seen

Despite the shamelessly high rent increases mentioned by other raters, management is so far removed from the concept of providing even so-so service to residents that they tell you it will be 5 days before a maintenance request is responded to unless it's an emergency. When you do ask for maintenance, we've found 3 weeks is not enough time to give them to prepare to do a competent job. We put our request in writing, then had to follow up constantly or not one thing we asked for would have been scheduled. Then they scheduled services that obviously conflicted with one another -- a repainting near the fireplace (don't use it unless you like smoke on your walls) and a carpet cleaning on the same morning. 3 of the 6 tasks we asked to be done still have not been done, 2 months and 4 requests later. A request (in writing and verbal) to repair non-working screen door locks has not been done -- oops, the maintenance coordinator told his guy to work on the glass doors, not the screen doors. When they damaged the porch while entering to conduct another repair, I had to ask for the porch to be fixed. Oops, the maintenance coordinator told his guy to work on the back porch. That, too, has yet to be fixed. I came home one night to find 3 men working in my kitchen, the front door wide open although we have a cat, the heater on blowing merrily while December air flowed in the front door. When the repairmen left, they left industrial size staples all over the kitchen walls and left filthy countertops. Hey, at least the job they were there to do did get done, a rarity here. The bathroom faucets -- 2 in each room -- all leaked from the handles when we moved in. It took 2 tries to fix them. Now, 18 months later, one is leaking again. I asked this morning for a repair. It will be interesting to see how many tries it takes to get someone over to work on the right problem. Incompetent, utterly careless, unprofessional... but they do raise the rent $80 a year right on time.

Kind of strange, because we've never had problems with Joey. Great service for repairs. We simply call and leave a message at night, and by the time we get home the next day from work, everything is done. For us, it was always less the 24 hrs. Try living at City Lights, where it is 7-10 days to complete service...I'll take 24 hours.
$80 is about right for the rent increases in the area. Cost of housing was so high by the end of the housing boom, everyone was renting. Simple economics.....high demand, low availability of housing, caused rent prices to increase and so did yearly lease prices. I wasn't happy about it, by no means!!! But, this was basically the same across the county for apts in nice areas. A little less in cheaper areas or more competitive complexes. I lived at City Lights, St. Moritz, and Barcelona, and it was the same at all three. We moved around a lot, trying to get into different deals, to combat these increases.
Best thing to do is to do private rentals. In a declining market, like it is now, people can't sell, and the only thing they can do to maintain cash flow (and prevent foreclosure) is to rent their place. In order to ensure renters they will go at least $200-$300 less than complexes, and will likely increase the rent for far less...because they want to maintain the cash flow. The problem is that most will require 2 months rent upfront for a deposit. But if you can do this, and you take care of the rental, you will save a ton of money in the long run.

The rsponder knows way too much about the rental "market" for just an ordinary renter (and it posted anonymously). Obviously written by management.

Arg. Thanks for elaborating. I've yet to se another AV blogger actually give examples. YOU ROCK. Sound like there's a lot of oopsies. It seems to be a common theme through out Southern California I experience oopsies on a daily basis - what's up with So Cal? Where's all the good help these days? Did you call the pther apartments in teh area? Did you find any that are similar or better of less? Any good deal out there anyone?

Yes, VERY good review. I have been giving serious consideration to this complex, but there are too many common themes to the complaints for them not to have merit. Off my list.
