Good Things

I read some negative stuff and feel compelled to write some positive, much like the last reviewer.

I've been living here at Don Miguel for over a year now and am about to move out. It was my first apartment and my first time living away from home.

Pros:

-The office and maintenance staff is incredibly nice, friendly, and very quick to take care of any problems you might have. My air conditioning broke down early on, I called it in and maintenance was here the same day. The AC was fixed and he even replaced some lightbulbs without me having to ask.

If you had such a bad experience with these people, I'd have to wonder how you were treating them. I've been reasonable and courteous with all the staff here and have always gotten the same in return.

-Great parking and security. Security patrols the complex every night and is very good about placing written warnings on cars that are parked illegally. Some people have parking spots that are closer to their apartment than others, but that's inevitable in an apartment complex. My parking space is about 80 walking steps from my door. Might seem far to some people but I've never minded it at all. If you have a bunch of stuff to carry in from your car, people are perfectly ok with you stalling closer to your apartment for a couple minutes and everyone does this sometimes.

The parking rules are clearly laid out before you sign a lease, and you'll know exactly how far away your parking space is before you sign a lease, so clearly anyone who complains about this should probably blame themselves.

-Value for your dollar. The research I did before getting my first apartment (this one) took months and was extensive. No other apartment complex in Rancho Cucamonga offers so much for so little. It's in a great area, it's got great floor plans, a great staff, great landscaping, walking distance to shopping, the residents are diverse and friendly, the walls are thick, it's quiet. And despite all that it's still next to the cheapest rent you can find in Rancho.

Cons:

-No washer/dryer hookups. Not a big deal to most people but I've never had to use shared laundromats before and I find it really inconvenient. My next apartment will definitely have hookups.

-AC units break down a lot. Probably every 4 or 5 months I've had to call in maintenance to fix mine again. They always get it working again within a day or two though.

-Bugs. A few weeks after moving in there were some bug problems, but this is something I've had to deal with in every place I've ever lived in Southern California (including some very expensive private houses). It's something I think basically everyone in Southern California has to deal with from time to time.

In my case I went to Target and got all the necessary chemicals and sprays. My mom came over to help and we had it all cleaned and sealed up within an hour. Since then I've had almost zero bug problems.

Also, if you report a bug problem to the office staff they'll pay to have exterminators come in and take care of it for you. But another con, sometimes you'll have to wait up to 2 weeks, which is why I ended up just taking care of it myself.

-Party people. Every once in a while there'll be a party that runs late and you'll hear general drunken behavior at 3am. I think this has happened twice for me in over a year. I consider this another inevitability of apartment living though, so I'm fine with it.

And again, the office staff is pretty good about dealing with this. Party houses get eviction notices real fast. And one of the two times I've been woken up by a party since living here, it was swiftly resolved by one of my neighbors opening her window and yelling at them to shut the hell up.

The partiers apologized and all the noise stopped immediately. Thanks!

Conclusion:

Extremely satisfied with my first apartment choice in Don Miguel. It's everything I expected and hoped for, and when I upgrade to a nicer place in a few months I can only hope I have the same good fortune.

Highly recommended to anyone looking for an apartment in Don Miguel's price range. In Rancho Cucamonga, you won't find a nicer staff or a better value.
