RAT INFESTED, HIGH RENT, SHORT STAFFED

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2003
I noticed the RAT problem when I first moved in three years ago. It's 2003 and they are still a problem. When my dishwasher was pulled out to be fixed, there were rat droppings everywhere underneath and in the cabinets. There was also a place that had been taped up under my sink and then had been chewed through by a critter. I have a cat now so I haven't seen them inside, but I can hear them on the roof at night and saw a very FAT rat waddling away from the trash bins the other night. This is a nice place to live, but for the price we pay (over $1200 for a one bedroom) these things should be fixed. We just got notice that the complex has been sold for a third time.. now sold by Prometheus to Knickerbocker. Three different owners in three years' When I went in to the office to sign a lease the other Sunday, I had problems finding someone in the office. My lease was going to be late, so I called. I never received a return call, so I called again. I was later told that only one person is in the office. They are very short-staffed. Another distrubing problem I had recently was that my gas fireplace smelled like maybe it was leaking gas. The maintenance person came, and the first thing he did was switched on the ignitor. I was shocked. IF my apartment had indeed been filled with gas, the explosion could have leveled it. He didn't seem to realize this. There are also no playgrounds for kids, so there are kids often running through the courtyards and skateboarding off of the sidewalks in between cars. I really hope the new management will do something about the RAT problem. Like the other person who reviewed The Cascades, my parking space has also been assigned to other tenants moving in by mistake, which causes problems between neighbors. I've resorted to calling the office anytime I see someone new moving in to make sure they know which space I am assigned to. Overall, this is a nice place to live, but for the money, I'd go somewhere else or put a downpayment on a condo.
