I lived at the Colony for 2 years. The secret to living at the Colony successfully is knowing exactly what you want and knowing yourself well. If you communicate this to the management, they will do everything they can, if possible, to put you in a "quad" with "like-minded individuals." There are some things you have to put up with -- some noise, maybe a dirty kitchen, whatever. It's good transitional housing. It's a great place for people who want to meet people and feel part of a community. I think I had a good time because in our quad, we all wanted a clean kitchen and people were generally respectful and quiet. These were my priorities so I lucked out. I think it's only difficult if you end up with people you don't get along with or who have different values or living styles than you. That's bound to happen with so many people at a complex. At the same time, I loved my stay there because I got to meet lots of people, mostly students going to HSU, plus the complex was surprising quiet compared to what I expected for student housing. So keep in mind, the secret is going in when there's lots of vacancies and knowing yourself well enough to know what you want and ask management for it. I also liked it because it was close enough to ride my bike to HSU and sometimes take the free bus (during non-peak hours). Plus you have to consider the price factor - not bad for your own private space for the price.
