DO NOT rent here. Here is why:
*nearly a grand for a one bedroom apartment, nowhere near downtown. It is next to some train tracks though.
*management comes out with new rules frequently and keeps changing the ones they have. You're not allowed to have a BBQ on your patio, chairs, or plants. Nothing on the patio, that is. There is some confusion about having plants actually; we've gotten different notices saying we can/can't have 2 of them. Ashtrays must be "attractive" lol.
*no utilities paid, no covered parking, no pool, nothing. You pay $50 extra to cover garbage and water. PG&E is also additional.
*they had our car towed because it didn't move for a month because the transmission went out, even though it was listed on our lease papers. We had to pay to get it back. The windows were smashed in. They didn't ask us about it or give us a warning or anything.
*the floor plan for the one bedrooms are tiny, not sure what the other apartments look like, but we pay too much for such a small space. The bathroom has enough space for a toilet and a tub, barely enough room to turn around in so if you're a big person defiantly look elsewhere. Its like using the bathroom in an RV.
*we had the carbon monoxide detector go off twice, called maintinence each time, and no one came to check. All of the windows were open and the fans were on. There was no way to take off the panel to check the battery.
*weird, chemical burning smells frequently seep in through holes in the wall behind the fuse box. No one seems to know where they come from.
*the air conditioning is a swamp cooler mounted in the middle and sticking out of the living room wall. It cools only the living room in the near vicinity of the cooling vent and only while its turned on. The insulation is crappy, you can actually see outside through the wall under the swamp cooler, so it gets hot again as soon as you turn it off. The bedroom is down the hall and around the corner so there is no way for that room to get cool at all. We slept on a mattress in the living room during the hot part of the summer so that we could get to sleep.
*the window shades they have mounted are the slats that don't keep out the light, and the runners are old so every time you pull them open or closed its a battle. The windows are continually popping out of the frames.
*same thing with the cupboards and drawers. The runners frequently break and most of our kitchen drawers open at odd angles and a few of them are wedged shut.
*when a neighbor turns on their shower, its LOUD. Its woken us up from a sound sleep early in the morning because it sounds like someone clicked on a TV filled with static at full volume.
*if the trains or the plumbing dont't wake you up every night, the sprinkler system will. It comes on every night in the spring and summer anywhere from midnight to 1:00 am. Some of the sprinkler heads sound broken and they're right outside the window. Theres always a huge puddle of water draining on the sidewalk in the morning.
*the laundry is expensive and the dryers don't work to well, so unless you put in extra quarters to cover a normal sized load of laundry you can count on coming back to wet clothes. The two of us spend about $30 a month on laundry. The soda machines will eat your quarters, don't try and get drinks from them lol.
*At the end of your first lease term, they make you sign another for 7 months instead of being able to go month to month like most other places.
*You pay extra monthly rent if you have an animal instead of a deposit.
Pros: the neighbors have generally been cool in our building.
To sum up: its expensive, smelly, shoddy, in a bad location, loud, and management sucks. We're MOVING.
