When I first moved in, they were really nice and everything. Then my husband and I got our daughter a puppy for Christmas. It all went down hill from there. They charged us an additional pet deposit ($800 more), which I thought was a little out there, but whatever. Plus $40 a month pet rent, which I have checked around and found about average. But since my daughter is young (almost 3), sometimes when I would take the dog outside to go potty, it would be on the grass by my door. Then the manager (Melissa) came over and said (almost exactly word for word, but with the same tone) "You see the grass dying here because of your dog, well it has to stop. You have to take him over there, and you better make sure he has a leash because you can't have un-leashed pets here. So you need to stop all of this." and then she just turned around and left. I thought it was quite rude. I know it isn't polite to allow my dog's poo to sit around, and I pick it up as soon as he goes, but telling me to leave my daughter (who is sometimes napping) in the apartment (which I'm pretty sure is ILLEGAL) to take my dog 200 ft. away to go pee' I think it's a bunch of BS. Now I have to go out and buy a small sand box, fill it with dirt and grass, so that it's MY grass that he's pottying on, and she can't say anything about that!
Then there was the parking incident. Someone parked in my ONE spot, and when I tried to contact the office, and the manager pretty much said "Oh Well!", even though it is clearly stated that covered parking is assigned and other vehicles will be towed! That made me pretty mad, since my spot is already about 150 ft. from my apartment, and then I had to park about 500 ft. away! Ridiculous!
Now to go down the list of what I'm reviewing:
Noise: You can hear both the airport and train tracks clearly from inside, which is annoying in the middle of the night. And the walls and ceiling are obviously thin, because I can hear muffled voices on all sides, and foot steps and showers and toilets all the time.
Grounds: There are a lot of sunflowers and roses, etc. so the bees are pretty bad. And the trees are either chopped to basically nothing, or over grown (I have seen several large branches that have fallen and blocking walkways).
Safety: It's in Oildale, which isn't the best location, and even though they claim to have security, I haven't seen anyone anywhere. And it's next to a high school, airport, and railroad tracks, so who knows what kind of people are wondering around.
Construction: Not that bad for the price. New appliances, but the cheap kind. Cheap lighting, etc. But not that bad for what I'm paying (I'm not expecting the "Ritz").
Maintenance: They are re-painting, and I was told that my building should be done about 2-3 months after I moved in, which was a plus to me because the old paint looks pretty bad. But now several months later, nothing. They are pretty much 1/4 new paint and 3/4 old, which I think looks tacky. Other than that, I haven't had any maintenance problems (probably because the appliances are new). So a plus for that.
Staff: The manager could definitely use some better communication/people skills. She just has this thing about her that isn't very friendly or nice. But the other ladies in the office are pretty nice. They always recognize me and know my name and apartment.
Overall: At first impression, it all seems pretty good, but then the "honeymoon" period wears off and you see the truth. So, I would grade it a D .
