By far the best apartments in Barstow are the Barstonian Apartments. Telephone: 760-253-2066 (ask for Tanya and/or Delores, who are outstanding on-site managers and VERY helpful.) I have been a tenant here for several months, and give these apartments a rating of EXCELLENT. The Barstonian has a parklike setting, with lovely apartments, lawns, trees, a fenced swimming pool, washer-and-dryer hookups in the units, and your own lockable garage. Also, any maintenance issues in your unit are fixed the same day by the on-site handyman, Paul. It really is a little "oasis" away from the somewhat-depressing inner-city downtown area of Barstow, where many of the other apartment complexes are located. Although there are several other apartment complexes in Barstow, and rents at some of these other complexes may be marginally cheaper, they do not offer anywhere near the same amenities as at the Barstonian. There are about 100 units at the Barstonian, and they are almost always fully-rented with a waiting list, so it is best to put your name down on their waiting list a couple of months before your anticipated arrival date in Barstow.

We are about to move out of these little nasty apartments, thank goodness. We moved in January of '07, just after new management took over. My husband is in the Army and stationed at Fort Irwin. We just got notice of housing on post and are so glad we are leaving. The manager, Sharon is not only extremely unprofessional (I wanted to give her an FYI on the cleanliness of the apartment when we moved in and she got very huffy and told me she didn't want to hear about that), but appears to be a bit on the shady side as well. Do I expect much of our deposit back, not really. I have to admit I wonder why she is now on her 5th or 6th property in the past few years. You don't get sent to Barstow, CA because of your awesome work as an apartment manager. Anyway, the outside appearances are very deceiving. Once you enter the tiny apartment it is clear how truely old, shabby and outdated they really are. It is just a matter of time before the stairs up to our apartment cave in. Unfortunately they are probaby the best looking in town, but the manager is not someone I recommend working with, she is a witch.
