I started living here when I was in college, before rent control was lifted. The apartment is an older building built in the 50s and the cabinetry reflects that. The manager isn't always at his office, but if you leave a message for him, he always promptly returns the phone call, and he's always very nice. He also cleans the entire complex every Sunday, so it's fairly clean.

When I first moved in, the noise level was pretty low. But for the past couple years, it has gotten worse and I had to threaten to call the cops on one of my neighbors. Although if you put things in perspective, one out of god knows how many neighbors in 7 years isn't too bad. Since it's an older building, expect to hear people above you walking around the apartment or turn on their shower.

I do think the rent is significantly higher now (about $950 for a 400 sq ft studio). But it is convenient if you are a student and it's a fairly safe block.
