The Berkeleyan seems to be the kind of place where your initial response to it will pretty much tell you whether you'll like it or hate it. For example, if you walk in and immediately say, "Why does this hallway take up half of the apartment floor plan'", then you're alert (because it's true) and this place is not for you. But it's fairly new, across the street from UCB, and has security cameras tracking your every move and nose-pick, a gated garage, whitewashed walls, really anal management, and cheaply-made but "good-looking" interior features--plastic counters that looked like granite, kitchen shelves which constantly fell down, and non-functional frosted glass sliding doors between the bedroom and living room/kitchen area which provided no privacy whatsoever. For all that, of course, you will pay out the ass. I agree with several of the comments that have already been left: Before we moved out, we scrubbed & cleaned the place for three days and ended up getting charged down to the dirt marks that management themselves left during walk-thru. Just assume that you're not gonna get much of your deposit back when you move out; now I know why the deposit is an unheard-of twice the rent.

Basically Panoramic Management is Berkeley's reigning king of "safe, expensive and new, unlike all of the vastly cheaper, chiller and more welcoming places that other poor fools have to live in!!"- which also means impersonality and sterility. This image that they project for themselves made it ten times more irritating when they started doing major renovation inside the building (due to sh*tty initial construction that had to be remedied), without ever acknowledging that we were all paying far too much to be literally living inside of a construction zone. They did, however, post very formal-looking notices kindly informing us when to expect COMPLETE POWER-DRILLING HAVOC. Usually early in the mornings. Yes, they took money out of our deposit for dust balls when, outside, our entire building was falling down. Aggravating, no' If I'd known better, I could've lived elsewhere and paid half as much to like my living situation ten times more. Believe me, cuz I never write reviews online (much less reviews that are this long). Management just pissed me off a lot. even in hindsight. whew.
