The worst place to live in Berkeley

There are many downfalls to living in this building.

With the unexperienced and uncaring management, a simple problem as getting your toilet fixed or electrical problems gets ignored.

A lot of the tenants here are frustrated when it comes to getting things to work since the manager is never here and the office is never open.

Althought its advertised as having a kitchen, the manager's kitchen = 2 old microwaves that don't even work.

The walls and the ceilings are incredibly thin, so be expected to listen to someone's loud conversations and music.

Although this may seem like a quiet building, the noise level is extremeley high.

In addition, homeless individuals have entered the building and been disruptive to other tenants living situations, which include entering into suites, knocking on doors and harassing tenants.

Not much is done here since the management could care less at times.

Since most individuals come in with microwaves and mini fridges, the old building is not capable of handling such high powered items.

Although the lease states these items are not allowed, many students bring them in anyways.

there are supposed to be separate breakers for each suite, but my old one (304) shared a breaker with the suite to the right (302/303, forgot the number, same side of the hall). my second suite (I moved to another room because of lease arrangements) seems to have no electrical problems. it's undoubtedly better than the dorms. i dunno if "half truthiness" is the right phrase--the original contains some verifiable and some unverifiable information, but perhaps is not intentionally misleading in the author's opinion.

I just wanted to note that this review is very outdated and no longer true in many parts. WHAT IS TRUE: (1) there is no kitchen; (2) some homeless people have entered the building in the past (and quite a few strong measures, including a CC-TV camera at entrances and common areas, have been taken since then); (3) the circuit breaker will trip if more than a couple thousand watts are forced through (I haven't had any problem if I am careful not to run other things while I'm microwaving something in my room). WHAT IS NOT TRUE (and following are the true statements): (1) the current management is definitely not "unexperienced and uncaring" (yes, we have a new manager since a year ago or so); they handle problems quickly, and they are very responsive. (2) there are regular office hours, with the hours posted on the office door (yes, part of the new management). (3) Wall is not "incredibly thin". If you are unable to hear your neighbor's LOUD music and you live in Berkeley, then you are living in a complex built in last few years---which Evans Manor isn't. I personally haven't had problem overhearing other people's quiet-to-normal conversations, and if you are having a problem with your neighbor leaving their music on at high volume at night, perhaps you should go talk to them, rather than blame it on the building and sulk. P.S. I had replied about a year earlier (and I imagine the "Anonymous"'s reply is to my response---but unless you can find it in Wayback machine or something, it's gone now), but I didn't realize that when I posted an erratum, that the system would delete my previous post without warning. But, there you go.

Please stop responding. If you responded a year ago, then you left your one review and coming back further is unfair and a waste of time. Secondly, the building has quiet hours and if your neighbor is making too much noise, it is the manager's responsibility to make things quite. Thirdly, the manager has students working the office and they can hardly do anything. Additionally, the walls are extremely thin, my neighbor keeps me up nightly with his video games and lastly, just because something doesn't happen to you doesn't make someone else's statement untrue or qualify it as erratum. The building really needs new management and better security, period.
