The GAIA is in a great location, 5 min walk to Cal and the BART. If you are rich and like perks live here. If you want a practical place look somewhere else. I moved in mid August of 2001, two weeks from the agreed move in date. Because the building was new and not finished there were no washing machines. Management hired a laundry company to wash the tenants clothes for free. That winter I came home from my finals to find my carpet drenched. Quickly they tried to alleviate the problem. It seemed as though everyday they were changing the padding under my carpet. The management refunded my unit one months rent, because the management was going to make the company that built the apartment reimburse them. The leaking problem continued and they tried to fix it. For the next two years there was tarp over the windows, wet carpets on very few occasions and a whole lot of construction workers coming into the apartment, banging on the window, and singing at 7:00am to 5:00pm. The management tried to fix the problem but they couldnt. In august 2003 they lowered the rent from 2,600 to 2,400 (2 bed 1 bath, very small) because of the difficulty I was having finding a roommate with the construction going on. I can say that they are willing to help you out because you pay a fortune on rent. As long as they dont lose money they are willing to make your apartment experience a comfortable one. I would recommend another building under the same management if you are interested
