An Honest Review from a 3 Year Resident

From: -Anonymous-
Date posted: 4/13/2008
Years at this apartment: 2005-01-01 - 2008-01-01

I have lived here for 3 years now in a 1bed/1bath upstairs unit and decided to write an honest review of Country Woods Apartments to help people make their decision.

The grounds of the apartments are always very well landscaped and kept up with streams, flowers and shrubs.

The only problem with the landscaping is that the gardeners sometimes start at 7am so don't expect to sleep in on certain weekdays.

You are provided 1 designated parking space and there seems to always be enough available parking for guests.

The only time there is not enough parking for guest is when people who don't live here use the tennis courts on some nights and take up the spaces.

The staff is generally friendly and do help you but sometimes it seems they have a bad day now and then.

In the 3 years I've lived here I've had no problems with car break-ins but they did send a letter out a month ago letting people know there were a few car break-ins.

Since then though I have seen security patrol and the Brea police quite often driving through the parking lot which is nice.

The apartments are older apartments but they have recently began installing new appliances (stove, dishwasher) and have also installed updated ceiling fans.

The cabinets and popcorn ceiling still make it look dated unfortunately.

In the summer you definitely have to use the wall unit air conditioner because these apartments get really hot.

The wall unit a/c doesn't work that well in cooling down the apartment and it doesn't reach the bedroom well so I have to put a fan in the hallway to push the cold air to the bedroom.

In the winter the heater does work great and the small wall heater in the bedroom, although it takes awhile to heat the room, does work great too.

Being southern California you really don't have to use the heater too much and other than summer I leave my windows wide open or vented for almost the rest of the year.

They put new carpet in the units as older residents move out so they are trying to keep up with appearances of the units.

Even though there are a lot of trees and bushes at the complex, spiders and bugs are not a problem.

I only have to smash a spider about once a month.

I think they get in when I have my windows open because one of the screens doesn't fit flush with the window so there's a small opening.

At night anytime past about 10pm you sometimes see the occasional possum or raccoon going through the garbage dumpster and rarely you'll see a skunk.

I've seen 2 skunks in 3 years and I ran the other way.

I guess this adds to the 'country woods' of the apartments! hah!

The complex is next to the 57 freeway but the streams and waterfalls throughout the complex drown out most of the freeway noise.

I have heard from other residents that live closer to the freeway that it's louder but my apartment is towards the Associated road part so not too bad.

The good thing though is that it's right by the 57 freeway so easy access when you have to commute or travel!

Doing laundry is only a problem on weekends when it seems everyone does their laundry and the machines are always full.

During weekdays there's no problem doing your laundry and there's always an open machine.

It's $1 wash/.75 cents to dry.

There's 2 laundry rooms on site, one by the office and the other in the middle of the complex.

The one in the middle of the complex is open 24 hours and I haven't had any problems with people stealing clothes.

The one problem is that people leave their clothes in the machines for hours at a time and eventually somebody will take them out and leave them on top of the machine.

The machines are all new from this year and use a card system that you refill in the office.

The walls and floor of the apartment I think are well insulated because I have never heard the neighbors behind me or next to me.

I have only heard the neighbor below me a few times when they slam their doors.

In the last apartment complex I lived in the walls were so thin I could hear my neighbor everytime they talked on the phone! The neighbors seem to be considerate and I've never heard loud music blasting.

On the weekends though there are a few kids that run around the complex and scream while playing.

Wow this has been a longer review than I thought I'd write! If you don't mind the warm apartment in the summer and are looking for a safe, nicely landscaped complex to live in I'd suggest moving here.

Oh, I forgot to mention they just put in a really nice BBQ by the pool and it even has cabinets.

Pros
-quiet complex
-new appliances
-landscape is beautiful
-24 hour laundry
-large storage units
-close to the 57

Cons
-wall a/c units
-rent goes up every lease renewal
-outdated cabinets
-very early gardeners sometimes
