Yo!

Nightmare on Andover Street

Dear Prospective Tenant:

I have lived at this god-forsaken property for almost 1 year--the worst year of my life, I might add. When I rented the apartment the manager was nice and seemed competent. However, upon moving in I realized there were going to be problems. Our apartment was filthy. When I walked around in white socks they were pitch black by the time I had walked throughout my unit once. I told the manager and I even brought my black socks in. He said he needed approval to get my carpets cleaned. I asked to see proof that they had been cleaned prior to us moving in but he refused to give me any. He never followed up and never cleaned our carpets.

All of our maintenance problems are a nightmare. I had to wait for 6 months for my oven to be repaired. Imagine not being able to cook for 6 months. I should have deducted my restaurant bills from my rent!

One weekend I was going out of town and my front door was swollen from the heat so the lock would not catch. I called the office to explain the problem and Jodi (the snitty Ass. Manager) told me nobody was working on the weekend and it wouldn't be fixed until Monday. So, I had to leave my apartment unlocked all day!

Other minor problems have occured and of course each maintenance issue is never resolved on a timely basis if at all. Today, I called about my toilet being stopped up. The Ass. Mananager told me to turn off the water and she would see what she could do about it. I thought a water emergency was considered an emergency not a "whenever I can get around to it" problem. My husband fixed the problem himself. Since they are in violation of our lease, we are contacting the fair housing bureau, the Better Business Bureau and anyone else we can to make sure people know what they are getting into before moving into Nightmare on Andover Street. Please DO NOT Move in here. You will certainly regret it.

The cable is another issue. They make you contract through Consolidated Smart Systems, yet another incompetent company. Of course they don't tell you this so I had arranged for two cable companies to install digital cable only to be told by the cable companies that they could not install on Nightmare due to contractual limitations. Direct TV is in cahoots with Consolidated and by the time you have ordered cable you have 2 separate bills to 2 companies and you are locked into a 1 year agreement.

The washers and dryers are alwasy broken and they raise the prices on a whim without telling the tenants (another violation of the lease).

The fountain has been broken (not to mention a hideous eyesore for 3 months. The hot tub breaks down regularly as well. They always say they will get around to it whenever they can!

Living at this property has raised my blood pressure and made me want to go to Law School just so I can get out of my lease and sue them for damages.

I hope you heed this warning. DO NOT RENT here at any cost.

Sincerely,

Diana Hricz
A concerned citizen and consumer advocate
