We lived at Town Center Apartments for just over two years, and everything was fine until the rainy season started...
What started as a tiny wet spot on the ceiling festered to become a rotted, discolored wet spot the size of a dining table after 1.5 yrs of shoddy roof maintenance or outright negligence on the part of TCA management.
Many messages were left for, and many visits made to, the management office to get this problem fixed. Every time we spoke to them after a rainstorm they would say that "many other apartment units had also been affected," and that roofers would come to the rescue!! Well, onsite management changes personnel every 4-5 months, and each incoming manager is as powerless as the one being replaced. The result is NO ACCOUNTABILITY on the part of management staff. We got lots of assurances but little action and NO RESULTS.
When the second year of our lease was up and we indicated that we were not renewing because of the ceiling "issue," they gave us even more candy-coated assurances that they could get roofers and painters out in a week to fix everything! Whooo hooo! Only problem was that I was already offerred this same confection when we renewed our lease a year earlier. I'm a bit wiser now. I did not find the idea of a rent increase to $1600 for a two bedroom that would require making a garbage can a permanent fixture in the living room to collect water, and cleaning up fallen chunks of ceiling texture from the floor, to be a good deal. I can also assure you that it is not much fun inviting friends over and having to explain the large urine-like stain on the ceiling!
So am I an angry former tenant'
You bet!
Did TCA decide to pillage our deposit anyway'
Of course!
But put all that aside and think about this for a moment: The damage to our ceiling was only damage that was visible to us in our particular unit. Imagine all the damage to the surrounding infrastructure of the building - rotting wood and drywall, standing water, etc., over a period of 1.5 years! If they treat the rest of the property with the same degree of neglect as the roof over our head, then anyone should think twice before writing a check to Town Center Apartments!
